Astutes Power Team are working with a leading Waste Management company with a portfolio of Material Recovery, Waste Transfer and Energy Recovery facilities across Central and East London. We are looking for a Transfer Station Manager to run the day-to-day operations on their facility located on the Thames in Wandsworth.

Responsibilities and duties of the Transfer Station Manager role:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Transfer Station, ensuring safe, efficient and compliant service delivery
  • Lead, manage and develop operational teams, including workforce planning, training and performance
  • Ensure waste operations comply with company procedures, Health & Safety legislation and Environmental Permit requirements
  • Monitor site performance, throughput, KPIs and resource requirements
  • Manage vehicle movements, tipping operations, contractors, plant and equipment
  • Lead incident investigations, site inspections and corrective actions where required
  • Support budget management, cost control and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain effective relationships with clients, contractors, local authorities and regulatory bodies

Professional qualifications:

  • WAMITAB Level 4 or equivalent would be advantageous
  • IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH or relevant Health & Safety qualification would be advantageous
  • Experience of Environmental Permit compliance and waste legislation would be beneficial

Personal skills:

  • Has previous management experience within waste management, recycling, logistics, transfer stations or a similar operational environment
  • Has strong leadership and people management experience
  • Has a good understanding of Health & Safety and environmental compliance
  • Has strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills
  • Is commercially aware, hands-on and able to manage competing operational priorities
