Astute's Power Team are exclusively working with the SAICA Group to support the recruitment for a Mechanical Engineer for their Combined Heat & Power Plant located at their Papermill Facility in Manchester. As Mechanical Area Engineer you will be the specialist Engineer looking after the "Balance of Plant" on the Power Plant. This includes the material handling equipment, boiler & heat recovery generators, water treatment plant and ancillary equipment.

Ideally you'll be qualified with a HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering, have several years experience in the aforementioned plant & equipment and able to lead & deliver a mechanical maintenance strategy focused on improvement plant reliability, availability and efficiency. Responsibilities and duties of the Mechanical Area Engineer role:

  • Supporting the Mechanical Team Leader with the scheduling & coordination of mechanical maintenance tasks.
  • Creating of documentation including Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Work Packs and Standard Operation Procedures (SOP's) as and when required.
  • Reviewing and updating work instructions and using Maximo to update projects and maintenance tasks including work orders, spares & parts.
  • Supervising technicians, craftsman and contractors during shutdowns and monitoring KPI's.
  • Development & maintenance of working methods and practises including carrying out Root Cause Analysis and incident investigations.
  • Management of all legislative requirements within the Power Station including PSSR, LOLER, PUWER etc.
  • Identify and support plant improvement projects and CAPEX applications within the Power Station.
  • Develop long term maintenance strategy through life time estimations of assets and long term service plans.

Professional qualifications:

  • Ideally qualified with a minimum HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • IOSH or NEBOSH would be advantageous.
  • Time served Apprentice in Mechanical Engineering.

Personal skills:

  • At least five years experience working in an Engineering capacity on a similar heavy industry plant - ideally utilising high pressure steam systems such as Power Plants, Refineries, COMAH sites etc.
  • Extensive experience utilising maintenance methodologies such as Root Cause Analysis to maximise asset availability.
  • Experience with management of sub-contractors.
  • Working knowledge of PSSR, LOLER, PUWER regulations.
