Astute's Renewables team is partnering with a global leader in the renewable energy landscape to recruit for a High Voltage Control Engineer to work across the UK and Ireland.

The HV Maintenance Technician role comes with a starting salary of up to Β£45,000 plus bonus scheme and pension scheme including salary sacrifice.

Responsibilities and duties

  • Performing commissioning and testing of High Voltage and Low Voltage electrical equipment including transformers, switchgear and cables.
  • Electrical testing, inspection and fault finding.
  • Carrying out maintenance to High Voltage and Low Voltage equipment.
  • Managing and authorising permits for High Voltage switching and isolations.
  • Changing High Voltage components like switchgear and transformers where required.
  • Write risk assessments, method statements and other documentations.
  • Adhere to health and safety standards at all times.

Professional qualifications

  • Strong understanding of HV Electrical Networks, HV and LV protection systems and able to program protection relays.
  • Is SAP (Senior Authorised Person).
  • Aware and adheres to UK electrical regulations and standards.
  • Competent in installing HV and LV equipment, cable jointing and terminations.
  • Able to write reports, risk assessments, method statements and other reports.
  • Experienced in electrical fault finding and relay interrogation.
  • Qualified to HND/HNC standards in Electrical Engineering, Testing and Inspection, Installation or other electrically biased course.
  • Experienced in Electrical Commissioning, especially commissioning High Voltage components and equipment.
  • A Full UK Driving Licence is essential due to the travelling and often rural nature of the role.
  • Ideally holding relevant health and safety certifications.
  • Able to use MS office packages and competent at using computers.

  • Able to work as part of a team.
  • Able to work at heights.
  • Able and willing to travel across the UK and Ireland with overnight stays (during the week).
  • A good communicator and comfortable working with other partners, customers, DNOs etc.
  • Keen to learn new skills, obtain new certifications or training.
  • Able to write reports and other documents where needed.
