Responsibilities and duties of the Shift Team Leader role:
- Lead and coordinate the activities of the shift operations team to ensure safe and efficient plant performance.
- Take delegated responsibility for site operations outside of standard office hours.
- Act as Senior Authorised Person, issuing and cancelling safety documentation in line with site safety rules.
- Respond to and manage operational incidents and emergencies in accordance with the site emergency plan.
- Ensure the facility operates in full compliance with environmental permits, planning conditions and statutory requirements.
- Monitor plant performance and take proactive steps to optimise availability, reliability and efficiency.
- Oversee waste acceptance to ensure only compliant materials are processed.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, operational reports and incident documentation.
- Deliver structured and effective shift handovers.
- Support the development, coaching and performance management of shift personnel.
- Promote a strong safety culture and high standards of housekeeping across the site.
- Provide shift cover where required to maintain operational continuity.
Professional qualifications:
- Extensive operational experience within a power generation environment such as Energy from Waste, CCGT, biomass, coal or oil-fired plant, or relevant experience as a Royal Navy Marine Engineer.
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation, environmental compliance and safe systems of work.
- Experience operating under formal safety rules and permit to work systems.
- Level 3 qualification in relevant subject such as operations or engineering.
- Happy to work a shift pattern that includes day and night shifts.

- A confident leader with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
- Calm and decisive when managing challenging or high-pressure situations.
- Organised and able to prioritise workload effectively.
