Astute's Renewables Team is partnering with a UK based renewable energy company who specialises in the development, construction and operation of utility scale solar projects, to recruit a HV Design Engineer to support with commercial-scale and utility-scale projects. The HV Design Engineer role comes with a Salary up to £70,000 + car allowance, healthcare and flexible, hybrid working along with training and development opportunities. Responsibilities and duties of the HV Design Engineer role:
- Lead electrical design of HV and LV systems, with a focus on MV (11-33kV) networks, for utility-scale and commercial solar PV projects.
- Develop and review system architecture and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) from concept through to detailed design, including MV collection and grid interface design.
- Manage and coordinate grid connection applications, including technical submissions and liaison with the relevant DNO.
- Ensure full compliance with applicable grid codes and connection standards, including G99 and G100 requirements.
- Coordinate and review electrical studies such as load flow, fault level analysis, protection coordination, and power quality assessments.
- Specify and define primary electrical plant, including transformers, MV switchgear, protection systems, inverters, and metering equipment.
- Support protection design activities, including relay settings aligned with grid compliance requirements.
- Provide technical input across procurement, FAT/SAT, commissioning, and energisation phases, ensuring compliance with BS, IEC, and ENA standards.
Professional qualifications:
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Strong understanding of UK grid code requirements and ENA standards.
- Familiarity with G99 and G100 connection standards.
Personal skills:
- Proven experience designing HV and LV systems within the power generation sector, ideally with exposure to solar PV projects.
- Experience managing grid connections and liaising directly with DNOs.
- Experience delivering grid studies, including load flow, fault level, and protection coordination.
- Strong understanding of electrical system design and grid integration requirements.
