Astute's EPC Power team is partnering with a leading EPC Contractor within the UK Power Industry to recruit an Electrical Commissioning Engineer for their Open Cycle Gas Turbine project based in Stewartby, Bedfordshire. The role comes with a day rate of £500.00 to £525.00 per day.
Key skills and responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Electrical Lead Commissioning Engineer and the Commissioning team to successfully commission the electrical scope of works to completion.
- Hands-on commissioning of electrical components and systems such as transformers, medium/low voltage switchgears LV/HV/MV, DC systems, rectifiers, inverters, motorized valves, instruments etc.
- Fully competent at using Primary & Secondary Injection test set equipment.
- Carry out testing on electrical systems and equipment, as well as system optimisation and troubleshooting and filling in the respective commissioning documentation and protocols.
- Cooperate with internal team members, guide and coordinate external partners and sub-contractors, interacting with customers.
- Work closely with LV/MV/HV electrical engineers, electrical supervisors, technicians, etc.
- Participate in the Plan of the Day meeting daily providing resourceful inputs on the work progress.
- Ensure all activities conducted on site follow the correct process in accordance with project requirements and in strict compliance with all EHS requirements.
- Coordinate all necessary activities with all involved parties, such as commissioning team, erection team and sub-contractors.
- Participate in the walk-downs for turnover from construction to commissioning, identifying open items that prevent system start-up.
- Prepare and update commissioning procedures to be conducted on site.
- Report to the Deputy Commissioning Manager and the Commissioning Manager.
- Provide theoretical and practical training to customer personnel.
Qualifications:
- At least 7 years working experience in power stations electrical (MV/LV and I&C) commissioning activities with demonstrable experience in a leading role in projects of similar relevance.
- BEng / HND in Electrical engineering desirable.
- Strong team spirit, working with an international team and other cultures.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ideally have Waste to Energy project experience; renewable energy, petrochemical, pharmaceutical and sub-station experience would also be fine.

Stewartby, Bedfordshire £500.00 to £525.00 per day – Outside IR35 February 2026
