Astute's Power team are looking to recruit a Civil Project Engineer - Geotechnical & Tunnelling on a project in North London on a long-term contract or permanent PAYE basis to start in August 2026.
Key skills:
- Focus on the planning, coordination, and execution of tunnelling, shaft construction, underground structures, geotechnical works, and associated civil engineering activities, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality project delivery.
- Support the planning and delivery of tunnelling, shaft sinking, underground structures, deep excavations, and geotechnical construction activities.
- Collaborate with design teams to develop practical and buildable engineering solutions for geotechnical and underground works.
- Review and coordinate geotechnical investigations, ground reports, construction methodologies, and design deliverables.
- Manage technical interfaces between tunnelling, civil, structural, and temporary works packages.
- Coordinate specialist subcontractors involved in tunnelling, ground support, ground improvement, dewatering, excavation, and temporary works.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with approved designs, specifications, and industry standards.
More information regarding responsibilities can be provided. Candidates must be degree qualified in either Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or similar. Must have experience in delivering large infrastructure, heavy civil, tunnelling or underground construction projects ideally within water, rail or utilities. Must have strong understanding of geotechnical engineering principles and tunnelling construction methods. Must have familiarity with temporary works management and construction teams.
Location, remuneration and timeframe:
- Location: North London
- Start Date: August 2026
- Duration: 12-18 months minimum
- Rate: £450.00 per day / £55,000 (DOE)
