Astute's Power Team are currently recruiting for 3x C&I Commissioning Technicians to join the EPC Contractor on a new build Waste to Energy facility based in Chester, Cheshire. The C&I Commissioning Technician comes with a day rate of £450.00 per day outside of IR35.

Role responsibilities and key skills for the role:

  • Carry out Control & Instrumentation (C&I) commissioning activities from late pre-commissioning through cold and hot commissioning phases on a large-scale Energy-from-Waste facility.
  • Perform loop checks, point-to-point testing, instrument calibration, and I/O verification prior to system energisation.
  • Assist with commissioning of DCS, PLC, SCADA, and field instrumentation systems across key plant areas including boiler island, turbine generator, flue gas treatment (FGT), and balance of plant.
  • Ideally have Valmet DCS experience on a power generation project.
  • Follow and implement commissioning procedures, method statements, and test documentation in line with OEM and EPC requirements.
  • Support functional testing during cold commissioning, verifying interlocks, alarms, permissives, and cause & effect functionality.
  • Participate in hot commissioning activities including first fire, steam blows, turbine rolling, and grid synchronisation from a C&I perspective.
  • Identify and assist in troubleshooting control system faults, signal issues, communication errors, and instrumentation performance during commissioning.
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical, and process commissioning teams to support safe and coordinated system energisation.
  • Adhere to site safety standards, permit-to-work systems, and commissioning risk assessments during all testing phases.
  • Support performance testing, emissions monitoring validation, and completion of commissioning documentation for handover to operations.
