The predicted salary is between 45000 - 55000 Β£ per year.

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Site Engineer to join a major highways infrastructure project based near Penrith, Cumbria. The role will involve taking responsibility for the delivery and control of site works across both self-delivered and subcontracted packages, ensuring works are completed safely, accurately and in line with programme and quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out setting out and dimensional checks across site activities
  • Maintain accurate survey records and produce as-built drawings
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, including earthworks, drainage and reinforcement
  • Maintain detailed daily site records and site diaries
  • Validate allocation sheets and site documentation
  • Manage specific site operations and coordinate subcontractors
  • Monitor progress against the construction programme
  • Provide input into weekly programmes and short-term schedules
  • Produce Works Package Plans, Method Statements and Risk Assessments
  • Produce and brief Permit to Dig documentation
  • Deliver daily activity briefings and task briefings
  • Carry out site safety inspections and hazard identification
  • Ensure works are carried out in line with project health, safety and environmental requirements
  • Complete and maintain quality documentation, check sheets and site records
  • Identify and raise quality or workmanship concerns
  • Support and supervise graduate and trainee engineers
  • Assist with environmental compliance relating to noise, dust, ecology and other site impacts

Skills & Experience

  • 2-3+ years' experience working as a Site Engineer
  • Previous experience delivering highways or major civil engineering projects
  • Experience working for a Tier 1 or major contractor
  • Degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline
  • Strong setting out and surveying experience
  • Good understanding of construction drawings and technical specifications
  • Strong knowledge of construction health and safety requirements
  • Experience managing subcontractors and site activities
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of work packages
  • Strong communication and coordination skills
  • Valid CSCS Card
  • Full UK driving licence
  • SSSTS or SMSTS

Experience in one or more of the following areas would be particularly relevant:

  • Earthworks
  • Drainage
  • Pavements
  • Roadworks
  • Structures
  • Communications infrastructure

Desirable Experience

  • Basic knowledge of Temporary Works
  • Understanding of utilities
  • Understanding of lifting operations
  • Working towards a recognised professional engineering qualification
