Astroscale UK is recruiting for a team lead to oversee our Electrical Assembly Integration and Test (AIT) team. This role will focus on leading electrical assembly, integration and test activities on various spacecraft components and subsystems, such as spacecraft avionics, harness and EGSE for our future space orbital debris removal projects and to ensure projects are delivered within specified timeframes and to a high level of quality. You will also manage team members including allocating work, and developing their skills by providing necessary guidance and/or training.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure electrical test and integration requirements are identified & generated (at spacecraft, subsystem, and unit levels).
  • Oversee the electrical assembly, integration and test of hardware including spacecraft subsystems, unit modules and harness.
  • Working with the electrical design teams (Power, GNC, RF, CD&H) to specify ground support equipment to meet electrical integration requirements.
  • Work closely with the design engineers on the definition and execution of electrical test campaigns (typically TVAC, EMC).
  • Coordinate with other teams to identify electrical AIT needs.
  • Generate and maintain AIT related documentation including specifications, review of manufacturing documentation (ICDs, test reports, user manuals).
  • Technical supervision and monitoring of suppliers, specifically for GSE.
  • Manage electrical testing of flight and engineering related hardware.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to develop plan and develop schedules for the project.
  • Track progress of tasks and set priorities for team members.
  • Mentor and support team members to improve their knowledge and skills.
  • Assist group manager in resource planning and recruitment.
  • Have a strong results orientation with the ability to set priorities and present practical solutions both verbally and in writing.

Essential Skills

  • Diploma; bachelor or master’s degree in electrical engineering or relevant engineering / science discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience as electrical AIT engineer, with experience in the space industry desirable (other hi-tech industries such as aircraft, motorsport etc. will also be considered).
  • Good manufacturing drawing knowledge to appropriate standards.
  • Ability to prepare electrical AIT aspects of a plan against project needs.
  • Team leadership – ability to lead small team of AIT Electrical engineers.
  • Working knowledge of appropriate standards for the space industry (ECSS, IPC etc).

Desirable skills

  • Knowledge of engineering verification and validation processes.
  • Experience leading a design and technical leadership of an integration and test team.
  • Experience integration and testing innovative spacecraft related hardware and / or efficient solutions.
  • Knowledge of software (Python, TCL, C, C++) and test scripting.
  • Familiarity with commonly used protocols and standards for spacecraft communications, such as CCSDS, CAN, Spacewire.
