About the Opportunity

Astro Education are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive school in Salford, who are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate looking to start a career in education and gain valuable, hands-on experience working within a school environment.

Whether you're considering a future career as a teacher, educational psychologist, pastoral professional, SEN specialist or another role within education, this position provides an excellent opportunity to develop your skills, build your experience and make a genuine difference to pupils.

You will work closely with experienced teachers and the wider school team, gaining an insight into day-to-day life in education while supporting pupils with their learning, development and wellbeing.


The Role

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities may include:

  • Supporting teachers with the delivery of engaging and effective lessons
  • Working with pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Supporting pupils with their academic progress and development
  • Helping pupils build confidence, independence and positive learning behaviours
  • Supporting pupils who may require additional help with their learning
  • Supporting reading, writing, maths and other curriculum activities
  • Helping prepare and organise classroom resources
  • Supporting positive behaviour and classroom management
  • Building strong and positive relationships with pupils
  • Encouraging pupils to engage positively with their learning
  • Monitoring pupil engagement and providing feedback to teachers
  • Supporting pupils during transitions, breaktimes and lunchtimes where required
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, Teaching Assistants and the wider school team
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive and supportive school environment
  • Following school safeguarding policies and procedures

Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. We are particularly interested in graduates who can demonstrate relevant transferable skills through university, employment, volunteering, coaching, mentoring, tutoring or working with young people.
