Job overview

Learning Partner (JG4) – 12.5 hours per week – Fixed Term – Term Time Only (including 5 Inset Days). Start date: 1 September 2026 – 31 August 2027 or sooner if the pupil leaves.

School: Backwell C of E Junior School (Backwell Junior School) – 0900 – location: School/Office.

Pay scale: JG4 – SCP 7 – 11 (£26,403 – £28,142 full‑time equivalent; £7,834 – £8,350 pro rata).

Key Tasks

  • Provide direct instructional support in whole class, small group, and individual settings following work plans created by the teacher/SENDCO and with teacher support.
  • Deliver brief, intensive, structured interventions supplementing the classroom learning and enabling pupils to retain access to high quality universal provision.
  • Act as 'teaching triage': while roving the classroom keep pupils on task and flag those needing extra help, facilitating assessment for learning.
  • Facilitate development of essential learning skills through scaffolded techniques (e.g., EEF scaffolding framework) to promote independent learning.
  • Assist teachers with planning, preparation, assessment, and other administrative tasks to support learner progress.
  • Foster and maintain supportive relationships with all children.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the setting, working under SENDCO direction, including providing intimate care when required.
  • Supervise and deliver structured activities for pupils during lunch breaks, with a focus on physical activity and behaviour management.
  • Maintain professional development through self‑directed learning and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the school’s aims and objectives, adhering to safeguarding, conduct policies, and safer working practices.
