As the Director of Sustainability Data and Analytics, you will spearhead a team of experts dedicated to ensuring our data is consistent, robust, and compliant with both external regulatory requirements and internal needs. This pivotal role will help us meet evolving regulatory reporting demands, provide transparency on our sustainability performance, and share insights across the business. Accountabilities

  • Data Strategy and Roadmap: Design, socialize, and execute the Sustainability data strategy for Global Sustainability and SHE, aligning to enterprise priorities and regulatory obligations, with clear outcomes, milestones, and KPIs.
  • Data Governance at Scale: Establish and operate a data governance framework suitable for sustainability data across a large, multinational organisation, including data ownership and stewardship models, councils, policies, standards, and controls.
  • Data Quality Management: Implement and continuously improve data quality standards and processes (profiling, rules, monitoring, issue management, remediation workflows), delivering measurable improvements in accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and lineage for sustainability data.
  • Best Practice Adoption: Translate DAMA DMBOK (or equivalent) best practices into pragmatic processes, tooling, and training, embedding data management disciplines (metadata, lineage, master/reference data, retention, access) across teams.
  • Regulatory Reporting and Insights: Ensure timely annual and quarterly data reporting to meet external regulations and stakeholder expectations.
  • Controls, Documentation, and Auditability: Implement and maintain robust data controls, documentation, and definitions (data dictionaries, SOPs, lineage maps) to enable traceability and audit readiness.
  • Culture and Capability Building: Develop a data and analytics culture; mentor colleagues and educate senior leaders to embrace agile, insight-driven ways of working based on trustworthy data.
  • Platforms and Tooling: Oversee the implementation and effective use of data reporting systems and analytics platforms, ensuring governance, security, and performance.
  • Stakeholder Partnership: Build strong relationships across business units, functions, and geographies to align priorities, drive adoption, and maximize value from sustainability data.

Essential Skills/Experience

  • Education/Background: Degree or equivalent experience in finance, sciences, sustainability, or a closely related data discipline.
  • Data Strategy Leadership: Proven track record of creating, communicating, and executing a comprehensive data strategy for a large business area or function, with measurable outcomes.
  • Data Governance in Multinationals: Demonstrable experience establishing and operating a data governance framework in a large, multinational organisation (ownership/stewardship models, councils, policies, standards, and controls).
  • Data Quality Improvements: Hands-on experience implementing data quality standards and controls that delivered measurable improvements across accuracy, completeness, timeliness, and lineage, including monitoring and remediation.
  • Best Practice and Frameworks: Strong knowledge of data management best practices and frameworks such as DAMA DMBOK (or equivalent), with experience implementing them in real-world contexts.
  • Reporting and Forecasting: Significant experience in sustainability or enterprise data reporting, analytics, and forecasting to meet external regulatory and internal stakeholder requirements.
  • Controls and Documentation: Consistent record of developing and implementing data controls, standards, and robust documentation (definitions, dictionaries, lineage, SOPs).
  • Global Team Leadership: Experience leading global, multidisciplinary teams, mentoring data stewards/analysts/engineers, and shaping a data and analytics culture.
  • Stakeholder Management: Excellent stakeholder management and business partnership skills, with the proven record of engaging senior leaders, aligning priorities, and driving adoption of governance and quality practices.

Desirable Skills/Experience

  • Sustainability Data Expertise: Working knowledge of sustainability data and the latest developments in sustainability reporting and regulation (e.g., CSRD/ESRS, GHG Protocol, TCFD, ISSB).
  • Generalist Environmental Data: Broad environmental sustainability data expertise across emissions, energy, water, waste, and supply chain.
  • Capability Building: Experience providing training and capability building on data governance, data quality, sustainability reporting, analytics, and related standards.
  • Change Leadership: Experience driving cultural change and adoption of data governance across complex organisations.
  • Data Disciplines: Good understanding of data science, data engineering, and modelling/simulation, and how they integrate with governed data management.
  • Strategic Agility: Strong business partnership and strategic agility to solve complex challenges and balance regulatory and operational needs.
