Introduction to role: Are you ready to build an enterprise-wide data and information marketplace that turns trusted data into a competitive advantage for patients and the business? As Director, Data & Information Marketplace, you will set the direction and lead the capabilities that let colleagues discover, access, understand, share and use data with confidence, accelerating science, operations and decision-making. You will shape product strategies, governance and operating practices from the earliest stages, turning uncertainty into clear plans and scalable services. Do you thrive on translating user needs and regulatory requirements into intuitive, compliant experiences—both for people and machines—while driving adoption at pace?

Accountabilities:

  • Data & Information Marketplace Strategy and Operations: Define and evolve marketplace strategy, capabilities and operating practices; contribute to the enterprise roadmap, governance and prioritisation to increase adoption, compliance and user satisfaction.
  • Marketplace Product Ownership and User Experience: Own marketplace products and services end-to-end; translate user, business and compliance needs into a clear backlog and seamless experiences that serve both human and machine users to drive sustained adoption.
  • Data Access, Transparency and Quality: Implement scalable approaches for access management, lineage, observability and quality; establish controls, standards, metrics and issue resolution to ensure data is transparent, trusted and usable.
  • Information Governance and Lifecycle Management: Lead lifecycle practices for data and information assets, including retention, reuse, archival and disposal; support unstructured information management and alignment to governance and quality standards.
  • Governance, Risk and Compliance: Embed governance and control requirements across marketplace services; manage risks and uphold confidentiality, integrity and availability in regulated environments.
  • Financial Management and Service Optimisation: Deliver cost visibility and investment tracking; find opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability and value realisation across platforms and services.
  • Leadership, Improvement and Change: Shape strategy, roadmap and success measures; lead change initiatives, represent the function across programmes and introduce innovative practices—such as AI-assisted stewardship and automation—to accelerate adoption, quality and compliance.

Essential Skills/Experience:

  • Significant experience in data marketplace, governance, data management, information management or enterprise data platforms, with accountability for leading delivery or change in sophisticated environments.
  • Experience in user experience design and translating this into clear, effective and adoptable experiences for users and machines.
  • Good knowledge of relevant capability areas, including data quality, observability, lineage, access management, lifecycle management and information governance.
  • Experience in product management and product ownership for enterprise data or information capabilities, including tooling, user experience and adoption.
  • Solid understanding of regulated, legal, privacy, security and risk environments, with the ability to balance accessibility and usability with appropriate control.
  • Demonstrated ability to innovate, experiment and bring external perspectives, applying emerging technologies and approaches to improve speed, quality and compliance.
  • Strong collaboration skills, recognising when to build on the work and skills of others and when to lead directly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead through complexity and influence partners across functions, driving alignment, decisions and change.
  • Good communication, planning and delivery skills, with experience defining outcomes, prioritising team and delivering business value through data and information capabilities.

Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • Experience designing and scaling enterprise data marketplaces or catalogs across both human and API-based consumption.
  • Practical knowledge of FAIR data principles and data product thinking, including data contracts and semantic standards.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms and tooling (for example, Azure/AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, data quality and lineage tools).
  • Background in highly regulated industries and privacy regimes (for example, GxP, HIPAA, GDPR) and their application to data access, retention and disposal.
  • Service design and product analytics experience to measure adoption, usability and value realisation.
  • FinOps or cloud cost management experience to drive transparency and optimisation.
  • Change leadership and enablement, including training, communications and community-building for data producers and consumers.
  • Information architecture and metadata management for both structured and unstructured information.
  • Demonstrated use of AI and digital tools to improve speed, quality and compliance in day-to-day work.
