Astral Legal has partnered with a worldwide insurance company, a leading provider of insurance and reinsurance in London.

They are seeking to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel to support the General Counsel and Head of Legal with UK and European insurance contracts, regulatory issues, and data protection legal queries. This role offers a variety of high-quality generalist work within a small team.

The ideal candidate will provide support and advice to senior business stakeholders, underwriters, and legal and compliance colleagues on a range of legal matters.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Stay updated on emerging law and regulation in insurance and financial services, as well as other areas.
  2. Draft and negotiate contracts including distribution framework agreements, agreements with brokers, commercial services agreements, data transfer agreements, binding authority agreements with managing agents, vendor agreements, and other service agreements.
  3. Provide legal advice on data protection issues and serve as a key adviser to the Global Data Protection Officer.
  4. Assist in developing a data protection advisory framework.
  5. Support on various insurance, reinsurance, and corporate legal matters as needed.
  6. Conduct legal and regulatory research to ensure compliance across UK and European jurisdictions.
  7. Advise internal stakeholders such as underwriting, claims, finance, and operations.
  8. Prepare materials for management and Board of Directors meetings.
  9. Draft and revise corporate policies and procedures, and assist with training initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years PQE, with experience from both in-house and private practice considered.
