Legal & Wordings Counsel – London – Hybrid
Astral Legal have partnered with a market leading speciality Insurance group in London as they are recruiting a Legal and Wordings Counsel. You will be part of the Legal team reporting into the Senior Legal Counsel. This role is a generalist opportunity as it offers wordings work, Commercial Contracts, Compliance, Data Protection, and Litigation work.
My client has offices globally and is a market leader in their field underwriting a variety of lines across 70 plus global countries.
Working within the Legal & Wordings Team, the role will assist in advising all areas of the group on a variety of legal matters as they arise on a daily basis, with a particular focus on advising underwriters on wordings, endorsements, proposal forms, and other client and broker facing documentation to ensure the execution of contracts which are legally and regulatory compliant.
You will work closely with underwriters, operations, claims, legal, compliance, and senior stakeholders.
The ideal Lawyer will be experienced across the Insurance space with a particular focus on Wordings.
Main areas of responsibility:
- Working with Senior Legal and Wordings Counsel to draft and review manuscript insurance contracts and documents in support of underwriting teams.
- Ensuring the wording suite is current and up-to-date and communicating with Senior Legal & Wordings Counsel for wholesale and structural changes of the wording suite.
- Advising underwriters daily on the best and most current wordings and endorsements to use to effect underwriting intent.
- Providing legal advice to underwriters and senior management on certain risk appetites and regulatory matters along with commercial contracts which affect placement of cover.
- Supporting the design and implementation of technology solutions to better manage our suite of wordings and legal documentation.
- Managing outsourcing agreements, software licensing agreements, TOBAs, and TPA agreements.
- Working with the Compliance Department on compliance issues, including sanctions and data protection laws and regulations.
- Advising on matters involving litigation and/or arbitration cases.
The ideal Lawyer will be between 0-4 years PQE; my client will consider candidates from both In-House and Private Practice Law firms.
