Aston University is looking for a creative and digitally minded Senior Communications Officer on a fixed-term basis to help bring the stories, successes and impact of our global alumni community to life. This role will play an important part in strengthening long term alumni engagement while supporting Aston University’s wider reputation, profile and growth ambitions through compelling storytelling, digital communications and audience focused content.
Working within the Alumni Relations and Development team, you’ll help showcase the achievements of Aston graduates, create meaningful opportunities for alumni connection and advocacy, and develop engaging content and campaigns across email, social media and digital platforms. You’ll lead the delivery of engaging communications across multiple channels, including our Aston for Life alumni platform, LinkedIn community, email campaigns and flagship alumni newsletter. You’ll help uncover and share stories that celebrate the achievements of our graduates, promote events and initiatives, and encourage lifelong engagement with Aston.
What you’ll be doing:
- Planning and delivering targeted alumni communications and campaigns
- Writing and editing engaging copy for email, web and social media
- Managing and growing alumni social media activity, particularly LinkedIn
- Creating content for the Aston for Life alumni engagement platform
- Supporting digital campaigns linked to alumni engagement and fundraising
- Using analytics and insight to improve communication performance
- Supporting editorial activity for alumni publications and features
- Helping strengthen the student to alumni transition experience
What we’re looking for:
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills
- Experience creating digital content and communications campaigns
- Confidence managing social media and online communities
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
- The ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences
- A collaborative and proactive approach
- Experience using analytics to evaluate communications activity
- Experience in higher education, alumni relations, fundraising or membership organisations would be an advantage.
