We’re looking for an experienced, customer‑focused IT Support Engineer to join our Digital Services Desktop Support team, playing a key role in the delivery and continuous improvement of end‑user IT services across the University. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys solving problems, supporting others, and taking ownership of their work while continuing to develop their technical skills.

In this hands‑on role, you’ll take responsibility for the deployment, configuration, maintenance and retirement of a wide range of digital devices including PCs, laptops, tablets and associated peripherals. You’ll provide high‑quality second‑line support to staff and students, diagnose and resolve technical issues, maintain clear and accurate case records, and work closely with colleagues, suppliers and service partners to ensure a consistent and reliable user experience.

You’ll bring experience working in a busy customer‑focused IT environment, along with confidence supporting and configuring end‑user devices and operating systems. You’ll be comfortable working independently, able to prioritise effectively, and keen to share knowledge and assist the development of others within the team. Strong communication skills and a collaborative, inclusive approach are essential.

We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive Digital Services team and to creating an environment where everyone can thrive. We particularly welcome applications from women and from groups currently under‑represented in IT support roles. We have a strong and active staff community with opportunities to engage in staff‑led groups assisting wellbeing, inclusion and a positive workplace culture.

Please note, this is an onsite role - 5 days a week. If you meet most of the essential criteria and are enthusiastic about learning and developing your skills, we encourage you to apply, even if you do not meet every desirable requirement listed. A degree or HND in a relevant discipline (or equivalent relevant professional experience) is required; experience in an academic or large organisational setting is beneficial but not essential. The role may involve some lifting of equipment and occasional out‑of‑hours work. A Digital Services uniform will be provided for on‑campus duties.

What we offer: Aston University is a dynamic and vibrant campus located within Birmingham city centre, which has excellent transport links via bus or train. Excellent training and development opportunities. A generous annual leave scheme with 30 days bookable leave and a further 13 days bank holiday and University Closure days. Everyday discounts to a number of activities and retailers. Great family friendly policies. On site gym and pool with discounted staff membership available.

Aston University may be able to sponsor those who are already on a Skilled Worker Visa issued before 04 April 2024. If you require sponsorship, Aston University will assess eligibility if you are shortlisted for the role. Please note we are unable to confirm individual eligibility before shortlisting.
