Aston University is a leading university of science, technology and enterprise, embedded in the heart of Birmingham and committed to transforming lives through education, research and civic engagement. Our students are at the centre of everything we do, and the professional services teams who support them are integral to that mission.
We are looking for an experienced and motivated professional to join our Registry team as Assistant Registrar Programme and Student Administration (formerly Programme Operations) on a 12-month fixed-term basis covering a period of maternity leave. Working at the interface between Registry, academic colleagues, and students, you will lead the delivery of key student life-cycle processes including optional module selection, academic induction, personal tutor allocation, and the management of change of circumstances.
You will lead, alongside the Assistant Registrar (Assessment and Awards), a team of approximately 60 colleagues providing a first-class service to academic schools, ensuring that processes are delivered accurately, on time, and with the student experience firmly in mind. Following centralisation of these teams and services in 2024/25, we continue on a journey of process review to ensure effective and efficient services are delivered.
We are looking for someone who brings a genuine enthusiasm for process improvement and who can effectively implement changes that make a real difference to colleagues and students alike. You will bring experience of student administration work in a higher education setting. You will be highly organised, solutions-focused, and comfortable managing competing priorities. Evidence of strong communication skills will be necessary; you will be working with a wide range of stakeholders, from students navigating challenging circumstances to the most senior academic staff.
You will be able to demonstrate strong leadership skills with a particular ability to support teams and individuals working in new and changing environments. You will have an inclusive leadership style that enables a diversity of views to be heard and valued, but the clarity of purpose to forge a shared way forward. Above all, you will share our commitment to delivering excellent, equitable services that help our students succeed and our colleagues to be their best.
