We’re looking for volunteers to join our team and support our community by assisting our Little Manor Supermarket and the Aston-Mansfield Community Centre.

About the Aston-Mansfield Community Centre

The Aston-Mansfield Community Centre (AMCC) is our multi-purpose community centre in Manor Park, Newham. It is recognised as a safe haven within our local community and is open to everyone regardless of age, ability, religion or ethnicity. AMCC is open 7 days a week – with a full programme of events and activities to take part in – and offers a number of meeting spaces, rooms and offices for hire on either a short or long-term basis.

About the Little Manor Supermarket (Food Club)

The Little Manor Supermarket is Aston-Mansfield’s Food Club, which supports the families whose children attend Little Manor out-of-school programme. The food is delivered to us by City Harvest and The Felix Project – charities which collect nutritious surplus food from different parts of the food industry including restaurants, grocers, manufacturers, wholesalers, hotels, and caterers. We then organise the food ready to be used as nutritious snacks at Little Manor and distributed to families at our food club. Each week, parents who are registered with Little Manor pay a small fee, book a slot to come into the centre and receive a Supermarket Shoppers bag full of healthy food for their family.

About the Role

  • To assist with the collection, packing and storage of food deliveries for our on-site food club/supermarket.
  • Following adequate experience and/or training, this could also include serving the food items to clients.
  • Ensuring tables and chairs for the centre rooms are stored and stacked properly and are clean and ready for use, cleaning tables and chairs if needed.
  • Assisting with ensuring that the reception area is kept clean and tidy and that notice boards are kept up to date. This may include speaking to visitors and signposting for services.
  • From time to time some light admin duties may be required (scanning/shredding).
  • Helping to ensure that the outside spaces are kept clean and tidy, including sweeping up and weeding. This may also include some gardening work if required.

Thank you for considering to volunteer for Aston-Mansfield. Volunteers play a vital role in helping us support children, young people and families in Newham. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!
