Aston Education is looking for a Reading Recovery Teacher for an Ofsted Good 11-16 secondary school in Lambeth, South London. The ideal candidate is a teacher with primary experience and QTS.

The school is fully committed to ensuring that their students have a good reading age, so that they have the best opportunity to get the highest outcomes at GCSE. Reading underpins everything they do.

As a Reading Recovery Teacher, you\’ll deliver 1:1 interventions for students experiencing reading difficulties. You can demonstrate a strong understanding and experience of phonics and reading. You have experience carrying out baseline assessments and creating individualised reading profiles, which you have applied to plan targeted sessions addressing identified reading deficits.

You have

  • Primary teaching experience and QTS.
  • Proven experience in delivering 1:1 interventions with children or young people experiencing reading difficulties.
  • Experience of drawing on teacher feedback and assessment reports to plan well-structured lessons that close learning gaps and support sustained progress.
  • Ability to plan and deliver individualised support tailored to specific learner needs.
  • Strong knowledge of the orthographic layers (Alphabetic, Pattern, and Meaning/Morphemic) and how these underpin pupils\’ progression towards reading fluency.
  • Experience in implementing a range of evidence-based reading interventions, such as:
    • Precision Teaching
    • Better Reading Support Partners (BRSP)
    • Reading Recovery
    • Paired Reading
  • Demonstrated interest in and passion for reading, with the ability to inspire this in pupils.
  • Experience of supporting children and young people to address phonological awareness weaknesses.
