Job Description
This is arguably the most exciting insurance company in the market right now.
Currently enjoying 20% year on year growth, and with plans to double in size over the next 5 years, this organisation is investing heavily in the growth of its broker distribution arm.
“Nationally, and internationally, this is an all-eyes-on project. The launch of our Cyber Division is the highest profile development in this business at present – these are crucial positions and your successes will be visible to the Board on both sides of the Atlantic”, so says the Director of this specialist insurer.
The UK SME Cyber market presents a compelling proposition for any dynamic insurer that is able to react quickly to changes in this this fast-paced niche. The SME Cyber market currently delivers circa £300M in gross written premiums across the UK, and is anticipated to grow 15% annually over each of the next five years. As such, the creation of a standalone UK SME proposition resents a significant profitable growth initiative for this insurer’s UK Broker Chanel Unit (already its largest and fastest-growing Division).
This new operating model boasts a dedicated Cyber team (comprising some of the most gifted Underwriters in the niche), and is supported by a scalable digital trading capability.
Aston Charles is delighted to have been retained to assist in the appointment of a Trading Team Manager to join the business in a senior capacity and lead the initial team of 8 Cyber specialists (comprising Assistant Underwriters, Development Underwriters etc). This dynamic insurer is an advocate of flexible-working, but as this is a crucial role, it is anticipated you will be onsite at its prestigious office in central Manchester approximately 3 days, most weeks.
Reporting to the Head of Trading, your expertise will drive operational efficiency, insightful data analysis, and excellence in service delivery. Duties will include:
- Working in tandem with the broker distribution senior leadership team to ensure alignment and collaboration.
- Managing and optimising underwriting processes (i.e., new business processes), leveraging technology to streamline operations and boost productivity.
- Developing strategies and initiatives to improve broker service experience with a focus on process simplification, striving for operational best practice and excellence.
- Regularly reviewing broker feedback to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes.
- Setting and delivering challenging quote and conversion rates, delivering required GWP growth, as well as rate and renewal retention targets.
- Embedding CRM usage into the team to ensure consistency in approach and understanding.
- Supporting underwriter development with mentoring and training.
You must have a proven track record of managing a team of insurance professionals, ideally in an underwriting environment, but we welcome application from experienced broker managers. We are particularly keen to hear from those candidates with a knowledge of Cyber insurance, or from within the wider financial lines market, but we will also consider applications from those candidates from a general commercial or liability insurance background. It is imperative that you have a genuine passionate for Cyber and Tech, and would enjoy keeping abreast of developments in this fast-changing market.
Whilst this is by no means a sales-orientated position, as this is a newly-created division, you must be able to demonstrate prior success in operational / managerial roles within a new business focused environment, and a proven track record of successfully leading teams against sales or portfolio growth targets. Strong managerial skills are also a must, and you should be able to use data / MI to robustly manage performance. As you will be involved in a number of exciting projects, you should be well-organised, with excellent task-management skills, and able to communicate effectively with both external and external stakeholders.
As one would expect from joining this Division, pre-launch, in such a high-profile position, it really does mean that the sky is the limit in terms of progression.
You will benefit from a highly competitive basic salary, plus 25% bonus (paid quarterly) and a comprehensive range of benefits.
