Roles like this really are few and far between.

And what makes this one particularly special, is the fact that it sits within what is arguably the most exciting commercial insurer in the UK market right now.

As a result of an internal promotion, this Trainee Business Development Manager opportunity has arisen within the Sales & Distribution team of this highly prestigious insurer.

Our client operates in over 20 countries, and is very much renowned as a world-leader within its chosen markets.

The company arranges insurance for some of the most fascinating risks on the planet, and has a reputation for excellence, innovation and formidable customer service.

This Trainee BDM opportunity is extremely refreshing because our client is seeking someone who they can mould and nurture, and as such, it is not essential that you have previous experience within an official business development role.

In fact, the person who did this role very successfully (before being promoted into a more senior BDM role), came from an underwriting background.

You will be responsible for promoting the company's suite of commercial insurance products to a panel of brokers all over the UK.

Your duties will include, but certainly not be limited to, making Discovery telephone calls to brokers in order to find out what kind of business they are writing, and which of this insurer's products will be relevant to them.

In addition, you'll identify specific risks for which the underwriting team can quote, and then follow the sales process through to the inception of cover.

You'll build strong relationships with your broker panel, ensuring that you are at the forefront of their mind when they are looking for quotes, and you will work closely with the regional business development team to ensure that sales objectives are met.

Much of your work will be conducted over the telephone, but you will be encouraged to attend some face-to-face broker visits.

When it comes to career development opportunities, this opportunity has them in abundance.

The previous incumbent was promoted into a more senior BDM role within 12 months and there are many different areas of the business that you could move into down the line.

It is absolutely essential that you have previous general insurance experience, either from an insurer or broker background.

Ideally, this experience will have included commercial insurance products, although we will consider exceptional candidates from a personal lines / high net worth background.

Just as importantly, you will be engaging, inquisitive, and good at spotting opportunities.

You'll have superb communication skills, as well as the ability to build strong rapport with brokers.

Given the nature of the role, you will enjoy working to targets.

Many people who join this company cite, "this is the best place I have ever worked at".

It is genuinely difficult to find a company that invests so heavily in its staff because they want them to benefit from "proper careers, where every member of staff has a mentor."

Our client operates a hybrid-working arrangement, allowing you to work 2 days from home.

The team are well-renowned in the industry for their friendly, supportive and collaborative environment, and there are lots of sports and social events available, including an incredible annual summer ball!

You’ll be rewarded with a generous basic salary (Negotiable depending on experience), plus a highly lucrative bonus scheme and impressive corporate benefits, which include substantial pension contributions and financial bonuses for passing CII qualifications.
