Roles like this really are few and far between. This Trainee Business Development Manager opportunity has arisen within the Sales & Distribution team of a highly prestigious insurer, which operates in over 20 countries and is renowned as a world-leader within its chosen markets.

The company arranges insurance for some of the most fascinating risks on the planet, with a reputation for excellence, innovation, and formidable customer service. This opportunity is refreshing because our client is seeking someone who they can mould and nurture; it is not essential to have previous experience within an official business development role.

You will be responsible for promoting the company’s suite of commercial insurance products to a panel of brokers all over the UK. Your duties will include:

  • Making Discovery telephone calls to brokers to find out what kind of business they are writing and which of the insurer’s products will be relevant to them.
  • Identifying specific risks for which the underwriting team can quote.
  • Following the sales process through to the inception of cover.
  • Building strong relationships with your broker panel.
  • Working closely with the regional business development team to ensure that sales objectives are met.

Much of your work will be conducted over the telephone, but you will be encouraged to attend some face-to-face broker visits. Career development opportunities are abundant, with the previous incumbent being promoted into a more senior BDM role within 12 months.

It is essential to have previous general insurance experience, either from an insurer or broker background, ideally including commercial insurance products. Exceptional candidates from a personal lines/high net worth background will also be considered. You should be engaging, inquisitive, and good at spotting opportunities, with superb communication skills and the ability to build strong rapport with brokers. Enjoying working to targets is important.

Many people who join this company cite, “this is the best place I have ever worked at.” The company invests heavily in its staff, aiming for “proper careers, where every member of staff has a mentor.”

The client operates a hybrid-working arrangement, allowing you to work 2 days from home. The team is well-renowned in the industry for their friendly, supportive, and collaborative environment, with many sports and social events available, including an incredible annual summer ball!

You’ll be rewarded with a generous basic salary (negotiable depending on experience), plus a highly lucrative bonus scheme and impressive corporate benefits, including substantial pension contributions and financial bonuses for passing CII qualifications.
