Job Description
We are delighted to be partnering with this world-leading insurance company that is seeking a talented Commercial Underwriter.
Depending on your level of experience, this role can be fully-home-based or hybrid-working. This is a remote team, although lesser-experienced Underwriters will need to be nearer to the Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham office, in order to take part in semi-regular training).
This company is well-renowned for providing innovative insurance solutions, and uses its ingenuity to insure risks that others can’t.
This position has arisen as a result of the company’s impressive expansion; it is enjoying 20% year on year growth, and is on track to double in size over the next 5 years.
Not only is this an opportune time to join the company, this organisation is extremely well-renowned for its culture; many of its staff citing, “this is the best employer I have ever worked for.”
Working within the Commercial division, you’ll be underwriting incoming new business enquiries from a wide variety of brokers throughout the UK, using your sound technical and negotiation skills to secure profitable business. You’ll be underwriting cases across a range of P&C lines, although a large amount of the risks will be Care, Not For Profit and Charity-related cases – thus some fascinating subject matter! It is those candidates with specific experience within the Care / Not For Profit or Charities sector, who would be able to work fully -remotely from the off-set, with more ‘general’ Commercial Underwriters starting in a hybrid-working capacity and working up to this – after some semi-regular face to face training in the office.
Specific duties will include, but not be limited to, underwriting new business cases, collaborating with the Claims team, as well as developing and maintaining excellent working relationships with the Technical department and the wider business. Being a growing business that very much listens to, and implements employees’ great ideas and suggestions, you’ll have the opportunity to get involved in some really interesting ad hoc projects and make a real difference.
As a minimum, you must have at least 3 years’ Property & Casualty/ Commercial Combined underwriting experience, together with a genuine passion for underwriting new business. Just as importantly, you’ll have strong communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with brokers.
“I really want to stress that this is by no means a ‘dead-end’ underwriting role”, says the Director. “We are extremely passionate about developing our staff, and this role has the genuine potential to progress into a number of different areas, such as Product Line Management, General Management, Technical, Compliance, Sales and more.”
You’ll be rewarded with a generous basic salary (Negotiable depending on experience), plus a highly lucrative 20% bonus scheme and impressive corporate benefits, which include substantial pension contributions.
