Surveyor (Building) - 12 month fixed term contract

Salary: £44,127 per annum

Location: Flexible - able to travel throughout the South West

Hours: 37 hours per week

As our Building Surveyor you will be overseeing one off projects and leasehold works covering a variety of projects. You will need a good understanding of building fabrics/components, being able to demonstrate technical knowledge and experience in this field. You will be a confident problem solver, always looking to seek a solution and being able to offer advice and guidance on remedies for building defects. You will have experience in specification writing and will have knowledge/experience in health and safety requirements as well as CDM regulations.

What you’ll be doing

As our Building Surveyor you will be overseeing works across Dorset, Somerset, Hampshire and Wiltshire. The skills you bring to the role will support the day to day tasks, which will include:

  • Undertaking quality control checks at agreed/critical milestones out on site
  • Weekly site inspections (H&S checks) as part of our client duties under CDM
  • Upon completion of work, processing final valuation and CVI’s
  • Holding and chairing contractor progress meetings
  • Undertaking typical contract management duties
  • Site inspections/surveying to identify works required
  • Being able to produce a work schedule/specification to go out to open market for tendering.

About you

Your qualifications & experience - You will hold a relevant technical (HNC or higher) qualification in Building construction/Surveying. Your recent career history will demonstrate experience within this sector. You’ll have a strong working knowledge of project management techniques and be comfortable supervising multi-trade contracts from initial offer to closure. Having experience in undertaking domestic and commercial building surveys and providing advice on matters such as construction defects and disrepair is key to this role.

Skills & Abilities - A strength will be your time management and you’ll be experienced in working to deadlines, whilst maintaining performance and budget targets. You’ll be a confident user of IT, particularly MS Office and be comfortable updating and working on a variety of systems and equipment including iPads.

Communication – You’ll be a confident communicator, being able to relay complex information to contractors and customers alike with the ability to change your needs to meet the audience. You’ll be comfortable communicating verbally and in writing. You’ll be out and about across your area so you’re going to need a full, UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.
