The Opportunity

As a Budget Manager, you will work within the Site Contract & Budget function reporting to the Site Contract & Budget Lead and collaborate with the Site Contract & Budget team including Site Payment, Ethics & Compliance, and the Clinical Study Teams. This role is responsible for the development, delivery and negotiation of site budgets in line with global standards and regional requirements. The scope may include local and regional countries. This position is based in the United Kingdom.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work within the Site Contract & Budget support function to support early and late-stage Clinical Operations.
  • Support budget negotiations with clinical investigator sites globally, including escalation of budget topics and implementation of global budget rate cards when applicable.
  • Support global best practices related to regulatory, legal and ethical standards in clinical trial execution/oversight in collaboration with Astellas Legal/Ethics & Compliance.
  • Assist in delivering site/investigator clinical contracts and/or budgets, aligned with consent language and general legal guidelines to ensure compliance, regional and legal standards, and timely delivery aligned with study timelines.
  • Draft the Budget Development Workbook based on study protocol review and export information from GrantPlan.
  • Utilise the Agiloft Contract system to implement a streamlined global process.
  • Interact with cross-functional and cross-regional teams to ensure operational alignment across Medical and Development, including with Astellas Legal, Data Privacy, ICF Standards and other required functions across early and late-stage clinical organizations.
  • Collaborate with Site Contract, Budget & Payment team members to ensure a streamlined department-wide approach, including Site Payments and ICF Lead(s).

Essential Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience in pharmaceutical drug development, CROs, or hospital environments with hands-on involvement in building and negotiating clinical trial site budgets.
  • Experience handling contractual/transactional legal matters.
  • Clinical development processes and ICH/GCP knowledge; regulatory requirements awareness.
  • Analytical problem-solving, sound judgment and constructive feedback skills.
  • Calm, professional demeanor with strong conflict-management and effective relationship-building during negotiations.
  • Fluent in English; excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Administrative skills and computer proficiency are desirable.
  • Minimal travel required (5-10%).

Preferred Experience

  • Direct experience at clinical sites (e.g., hospitals or research centers) is highly desirable.
  • Expertise in site-level clinical trial budget development and management, including high-level budget escalations and negotiations.
  • Senior-level responsibilities with autonomy in managing complex escalations, global or regional experience preferred.

Education

  • BA/BS Degree or equivalent.

Additional Information

This is a permanent, full-time position based in the United Kingdom. Follows our hybrid working model with a blend of home and in-office presence, with quarterly in-office needs and flexibility as required by the business.
