HSE Advisor in Omagh

The HSE Advisor supports the implementation, monitoring and continual improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) standards across the business. The role provides practical advice to managers, supervisors and employees, supports compliance with applicable UK and Northern Ireland legislative requirements, and helps embed a proactive safety culture across manufacturing, engineering and office environments. Working under the direction of the Operations Manager, the HSE Advisor will support risk assessment, inspections, training, incident reporting, environmental compliance, occupational health activities and management system requirements. The position is advisory and operational in focus, with escalation of complex or strategic matters to the Operations Manager. About The Role Key Deliverables Support a compliant and effective HSE management system aligned to business requirements. Contribute to the reduction of incidents, accidents and near misses through proactive risk identification and control. Support the delivery of HSE training, inductions and competency programmes. Assist with high-quality incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action tracking. Support successful audit, inspection and compliance outcomes. Maintain accurate HSE records, reports and documentation that are current and audit-ready. Promote employee engagement and positive safety behaviours across the organisation. Support continual improvement in health, safety, environmental and wellbeing performance metrics. Key Activities & Responsibilities Health, Safety & Environmental Support Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE policies, procedures and management systems. Provide day-to-day HSE advice and guidance to managers, supervisors, employees and contractors. Support operational teams in embedding HSE requirements into daily work activities and decision-making. Act as a visible HSE presence on the shop floor, encouraging safe behaviours and raising awareness of HSE standards. Compliance & Governance Support compliance with relevant UK and Northern Ireland health, safety and environmental legislation, regulations and industry standards. Assist with monitoring legislative and regulatory updates, escalating required changes to the Operations Manager. Support regulatory inspections, internal audits and external audits, ensuring required documentation is available and accurate. Maintain HSE records, procedures and controlled documents so they remain current, effective and audit-ready. Risk Management Conduct and review risk assessments, safe systems of work, COSHH assessments and method statements with operational teams. Identify hazards, assess risk and recommend practical control measures in line with the hierarchy of control. Support project, maintenance, production and engineering teams to ensure HSE risks are considered during planning and execution. Promote risk awareness, ownership and accountability across the workforce. Incident Management & Continuous Improvement Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions. Assist with root cause analysis and ensure corrective and preventative actions are recorded, assigned and followed through to closure. Monitor incident trends, inspection findings and corrective actions to identify recurring themes and improvement opportunities. Contribute to continuous improvement activities that reduce risk and improve operational performance. Training, Coaching & Employee Engagement Coordinate and deliver HSE inductions, toolbox talks, refresher training and awareness sessions as required. Support employee competency development and mandatory training compliance. Coach managers, supervisors and employees on HSE expectations, safe behaviours and practical risk controls. Support safety meetings, committees and employee engagement initiatives to strengthen the safety culture. Environmental Management Support environmental compliance activities, including waste management, spill prevention, permitting requirements and sustainability initiatives. Monitor environmental risks and assist with implementing appropriate mitigation measures. Promote responsible environmental practices across operational areas. Maintain environmental documentation, monitoring records and reporting information as required. Occupational Health & Wellbeing Support occupational health activities, including health surveillance, exposure monitoring and workplace wellbeing initiatives. Assist in monitoring workplace exposure risks including noise, dust, fumes, chemicals and ergonomic hazards. Work with Occupational Health providers, HR and operational teams to support employee wellbeing and fitness for work processes. Promote awareness of physical health, mental wellbeing and workplace wellness programmes. Performance Monitoring & Reporting Prepare and maintain HSE performance data, dashboards, inspection reports and action trackers. Undertake workplace inspections, audits and compliance checks, reporting findings and recommended actions. Support management reporting by providing accurate and timely HSE data and commentary. Maintain records to support regulatory, business and certification requirements. Integrated Management System (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001) Support the maintenance and continual improvement of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 management systems. Assist with internal audits, external certification audits and corrective action follow-up. Ensure HSE documentation, processes and records remain compliant and audit-ready. Support awareness and understanding of management system requirements across the business. Required Criteria Experience in a Health, Safety and Environmental advisory role, ideally within manufacturing, engineering, construction, industrial or similar operational environments. Working knowledge of UK and Northern Ireland health, safety and environmental legislation and practical application in the workplace. Experience supporting risk assessments, audits, inspections, incident investigations and corrective action management. Ability to communicate clearly and confidently with employees, supervisors, managers, contractors and external parties. Practical, hands-on approach with the confidence to spend time in operational areas and challenge unsafe behaviours constructively. Good planning, organisation and recordkeeping skills with attention to detail. Ability to analyse HSE data, identify trends and recommend practical improvements. NEBOSH General Certificate, NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ, IOSH or equivalent HSE qualification desirable; willingness to continue professional development expected. Competence using Microsoft Office and HSE reporting/action tracking systems. Desired Criteria Professional membership of IOSH or equivalent professional body desirable.
