Job Description
Reporting in to the Construction Superintendent, working as a Field Engineer / Welding Inspector (FE), you will carry out surveillance activities to ensure all works are delivered in line with requirements. You will be part of a wider team whose primary focus is to support the Team Lead responsibilities defined in the contract and ensure HPC Quality expectations are consistently met.
You will be a strong advocate for Nuclear Safety Culture, helping embed this mindset across all processes and activities. Your scope will cover all works associated with the construction of your assigned project area, including continuous, notified and planned surveillance of the Works Contractors. You will also contribute to site‑wide matters, working closely with operational teams across the project. Accurate recording, reporting and distribution of surveillance findings to the Construction and Quality Teams will form a key part of the role.
Alongside these responsibilities, you will follow company policies, procedures and protocols for construction, health & safety and quality and support the identification of improvements where appropriate.
This role will be carried out as a full site based position, working in Bridgwater 5 days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- Verify that works are delivered in accordance with contractual requirements and notify the Construction Superintendent of any non‑conformance request needs.
- Provide details to support the issuing of non‑conformance reports.
- Maintain strong communication with all site teams and ensure surveillance activities are promptly reported.
- Contribute surveillance data to support KPI measurements.
- Identify potential quality issues early and support mitigation actions.
- Assist the team in implementing temporary measures to maintain safety and quality, and take proportionate follow‑up actions (e.g. issuing communications, arranging meetings).
- Ensure design decisions are not made informally on site and are escalated through the proper approval process.
- Maintain awareness of current and upcoming site activities.
- Ensure tasks are delivered to required health, safety and environmental standards.
- Develop and maintain an understanding of construction drawings, activities, Quality Control Plans and Quality Inspection Records.
- Ensure Quality Inspection Records are completed and accepted before works are covered up.
- Review Contractor performance against the approved Quality Control Plan.

- Knowledge of documentation used in safety‑critical construction and fabrication environments (e.g., Inspection and Test Plans, End of Erection Status Reports).
- Knowledge of the fabrication and installation of pressure systems.
- Good knowledge of pipework, tanks/vessels, steelwork and heat exchangers.
- Broad knowledge and understanding of the engineering / construction industry including materials, trades, methods and legal requirements.
- Excellent organisation, delegation and communication skills.

- Proven track record of working within a large construction team.
- Working knowledge of relevant British & European standards and construction/design codes/guidelines such as RCC‑M, BS EN and ASME.
