Overview

Project Manager for a major nuclear power plant project. Responsible for delivering all or part of the engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning activities across the contract or work package lifecycle, in line with the overall project schedule. Ensures planning and delivery meet safety, quality, time, and cost parameters and reports to the Head of Site Operations with responsibility for directing activities across the full life cycle of the assigned contract or work package.

Principal Accountabilities

• Assist in securing required resources to meet project requirements, maintain SQEP for assigned resources, and promptly identify personnel shortfalls or issues within the project team
• Assist in developing and implementing strategies and plans aligned with the overall programme execution plan (PEP), detailing how the programme of work will be managed, organised, and executed
• Maintain effective communications with all stakeholders and execute project or PEP strategies within the contract or package of work
• Assist with delivery of contract or package activities to ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget delivery that meets business and technical requirements; monitor progress against milestones and budget and provide stakeholders with progress reports
• Anticipate, manage, and resolve issues within the contract or package; identify risks, facilitate issue resolution, update the programme budget, and escalate as required
• Collaborate with the construction team to develop and maintain schedules for the contract or package, ensuring alignment with overall project schedules and escalating discrepancies
• Promote lessons learned and knowledge capture as business as usual
• Interface with other programmes to maintain a high-level view of total project progress and identify and adopt best practices
• Ensure fulfilment of contract or package contractual requirements and escalate as necessary

Nature and Scope

The role provides support to the Site Construction team, working independently in some areas to ensure effective delivery while recognizing the wider impacts of the programme on the project. The Project Manager applies a project management approach to design principles and system design to ensure activities are delivered safely, to quality, budget, and schedule.

The Project Manager is responsible for delivering a specified set of activities to time, cost, safety, and quality, including day-to-day management of specific contracts and the Level 3 and Level 4 schedules (Detailed Control Schedules) that provide detailed weekly and monthly work execution sequences.

The Project Manager will lead diverse project team members to deliver activities within the programme and assist the Senior Project Manager or work independently in setting up and managing near-term work plans, budgeting for areas of activity, developing and operating a risk log, challenging cost increases, and establishing interfaces with other project managers. The role also involves setting up and operating the quality plan and change control for contracts.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of leadership in complex projects
• Working knowledge of CDM Regulations
• Proficient numeracy, analytical and critical reasoning skills
• Proficient application of estimating, scheduling, programming, risk management
• Excellent presentation, influencing and facilitation skills
• Understanding of nuclear quality needs and how nuclear quality is assured and controlled
• A degree or similar qualification in a related subject is desirable but not essential
• Professional qualification in Project Management (e.g., APM PPQ) is desirable but not essential
• Demonstrated project management experience in:
  • Engineering design, contract, and field execution strategies for project delivery
  • Multi-discipline EPCM projects
  • Construction activities management
  • Procurement and management of complex contracts
  • Control of costs, risk, schedule, and change
  • Management of commercial claims and associated negotiations
• Successful experience engaging multi-level stakeholders including contractors, consultants, and advisors in a regulated environment
• Experience operating within NEC and FIDIC commercial arrangements
