Job Description
Mechanical Responsible Engineer - Warrington - Perm or Contract (Inside IR35)
The RE holds full technical accountability for mechanical & ventilation engineering within their area, ensuring all work is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose across the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities & Experience:
- Strong mechanical engineering background in regulated, safety-critical environments.
- Proven technical accountability & decision-making experience.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, standards, and safety requirements.
- Establish governance, assurance & verification processes.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams & resolve complex technical issues.
- Manage technical risks effectively.
- Interface with project teams, regulators & assurance bodies.
- Promote a strong safety, quality & compliance culture.
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Extensive experience aligned to a Responsible Engineer role.
- Chartered Engineer (or equivalent) with a recognised institution.
- Able to meet security clearance & site access requirements.
Key Experience:
- Experience as a Responsible Engineer or technical authority in nuclear/high-hazard environments.
- Safety case development, substantiation & regulatory engagement.
- Full lifecycle delivery: concept → commissioning & handover.
- Managing deviations, concessions & non-conformances.
- Strong understanding of governance, assurance & gated processes.
- Contribution to strategic decision-making & continuous improvement.
Specialist Knowledge:
- SQEP in high-integrity piping design (incl. seismic & safety case).
- Machinery Directive & machinery design expertise.
- UKCA marking for new facilities.
- Familiarity with SEMs, Design Capability CoE & organisational structures.
- SQEP aligned with SR0699 & ED21 standards.
