The SharePoint Administrator is accountable to the Digital Capability Project Manager for providing industry knowledge, experience, and best practice in the design and management of MS SharePoint systems (and related technologies), ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and legal requirements. Responsible for overseeing the SharePoint environment by ensuring functionality, reliability, and continuity to meet user requirements, while managing and maintaining the platform, providing technical support, and implementing SharePoint projects.
Support the development of a medium‑to‑long‑term JDR Programme‑wide strategy for the effective planning and delivery of the SharePoint platform, ensuring it meets current and anticipated programme requirements while also delivering immediate operational needs. Manage the production of technical documentation, including strategy documents, design philosophy, design bases, and other technical framework definition materials, and prepare the Programme SharePoint system for transition to sustainable “business as usual” (BAU) operation.
Work closely with the Digital Capability Project, Systems Engineering, wider Computing technical, data, and security teams, and other key stakeholders to ensure alignment with organisational goals and stakeholder expectations. Bring extensive experience in SharePoint system design and delivery, supported by strong leadership capability and excellent communication skills.
Accountabilities- Close liaison and collaboration with the Computing team, including their SharePoint Administration team.
- Design and implement SharePoint infrastructure aligned with programme and requirements.
- Install, configure, and upgrade SharePoint systems.
- Set up and manage user accounts and permissions.
- Develop and manage content databases and site collections.
- Work with developers to deploy custom SharePoint solutions.
- Provide SharePoint support to end users.
- Maintain system security and stability, addressing issues related to performance, availability, or capacity.
- Perform daily monitoring and troubleshooting of the SharePoint environment.
- Create and maintain documentation for SharePoint policies, procedures, and user guides.
- Coordinate with network administrators, systems analysts, and software engineers to resolve issues within the SharePoint framework, databases, and related software.
- Provide training to end users and ensure effective operation of the SharePoint environment.
- Plan and execute backup and disaster recovery operations for SharePoint environments.
- Provide advice and guidance to other project teams as required.
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience in SharePoint administration.
- Proficiency in SharePoint Server and SharePoint Online, including installation, configuration, and maintenance.
- Strong understanding of SharePoint architecture, including sites, libraries, workflows, and permissions management.
- Experience with SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365, including integration with Microsoft services such as Teams, OneDrive, and Power Automate.
- Solid knowledge of PowerShell scripting for SharePoint administration and automation tasks.
- Experience configuring and managing SharePoint security settings, access control, and user permissions.
- Familiarity with SharePoint backup, restore, and disaster recovery processes.
- Knowledge of SharePoint performance tuning and optimisation techniques.
- Experience using monitoring and reporting tools to track SharePoint performance and usage.
- Understanding of data governance, compliance, and security requirements within SharePoint environments.
- Experience managing SharePoint content management systems and document libraries.
- Familiarity with managing SharePoint workflows and integration with other business systems.
- Experience planning and managing SharePoint solutions to support complex programme and project requirements.
- Certification in Microsoft SharePoint (e.g., Microsoft Certified: SharePoint Server or Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals).
- Experience with hybrid SharePoint environments combining on‑premises and cloud solutions.
- Knowledge of web development technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for customisation of SharePoint sites and features.
- Experience with SharePoint Designer for creating and managing workflows and customisations.
- Experience with SharePoint add‑ins, third‑party tools, and integrations with other enterprise applications.
