Job Description
As Assystem’s nuclear business grows, we are looking for dynamic, self-motivated Commercial Management Consultant/ Senior Quantity Surveyor
The role is accountable to the Programme Controls Manager for the provision of quantity surveying support to minimise the cost and risk of decommissioning projects and enhance value for money.
Key responsibilities included but not limited to
- Establish client requirements and undertake feasibility studies to validate proposals.
- Perform benchmarking exercises to compare project costs against sector norms.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for decommissioning projects (materials, quantities, labour, time).
- Assemble baseline budget information for project tasks.
- Manage cost analysis for construction and decommissioning projects.
- Support preparation of tender packages with Principal Designer and Client commercial team.
- Provide QS leadership in complex procurement projects.
- Advise on procurement strategy and contract variations, including NEC4 compliance.
- Validate payment assessments, challenge compensation events, and agree final accounts.
- Engage in risk management processes, including valuation of defined risks.
- Identify, analyse, and develop responses to risks.
- Provide strategic commercial advice to maximise value for money and minimise programme risk
- Analyse outcomes and produce detailed progress reports.
- Maintain awareness of current contracts and health & safety implications.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend solutions for works contracts.
- Support lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives across UKAEA projects.
Qualifications
Qualification, Special Skills or Experience
- A degree in quantity surveying or a related subject, accredited by RICS
- Chartered status with RICS, CICES or similar
- Good working knowledge of a broad range of construction and engineering principles.
- A good understanding of CDM regulations.
- Advanced analytical and attention-to-detail abilities.
- Proficiency with technology and surveying software.
- Demonstrable experience in a senior capacity working in a Construction / Decommissioning environment on projects with budgets in excess of £20m.
- Strong contract management expertise, ideally with NEC4 contracts or similar frameworks.
- Experience of dispute resolution.
- Experience with working to design standards.
- Ability to interact with multiple stakeholders across the client, wider organisation and industry.
- Good communication and technical writing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
- Additional Information
- Hybrid role with
3 days per week in the Client's Oxford office.
- UK national with ability to gain BPSS check.
