Join the Fusion and Modular Nuclear Business Unit! The Process engineer will support the design of complex thermal and fluid systems for the Rolls Royce SMR project. This exciting new build project is embracing innovation to deliver commercially. The role will provide analysis and calculation support across Turbine Island systems and will contribute to an internal centre of excellence for analysis and calculation methodology. Along with the cross-cutting lead you will generate static and transient flow and thermal analyses using various software tools and methods to demonstrate the system performance.

Your mission:

  • Intelligent Customer: Ensure supplier deliverables meet requirements, challenging designs where necessary.
  • Design Development: Create and review Process Flow Diagrams, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, and Specifications.
  • Optioneering & Decision Making: Conduct and review studies and design documents.
  • Systems Engineering: Develop and review functional and design requirements.
  • Integration: Seamlessly integrate Turbine Island design into the broader power plant.
  • Technical Support: Serve as the go-to expert for Turbine Island interface and stakeholder activities.
  • Safety & Compliance: Support Design Reviews, HAZID/HAZOP studies, and ensure adherence to H&S Policies.
  • Liaison: Work with safety teams on nuclear safety licensing and environmental permitting.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Background in the nuclear sector or regulated industries like thermal power generation, oil and gas.
  • Technical Expertise: Knowledge of steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems.
  • Project Delivery: Experience from FEED to detailed design and EPC delivery.
  • Procurement & Supplier Liaison: Skilled in developing procurement specs and working with suppliers.
  • Communication: Excellent skills for interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with UK Health and Safety regulations, safety systems, and HAZOP.
  • Codes & Standards: Understanding of ASME, European, and UK standards.
  • Systems Engineering: Experience or awareness desirable.

Additional Information:

  • Security: BPSS and SC required.
  • Travel Ready: Ability to travel to Assystem offices and customer sites within the UK.
