Our Environmental Consents & Engagement (ECE) practice provides strategic environmental advice, consenting expertise and stakeholder engagement to enable the successful delivery of major developments across the UK.

We are seeking a Senior Environmental Consultant to ensure compliance with environmental legislation, permits, licences and consents. You will also work to protect the environment and work collaboratively across multiple teams to drive forward environmental performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Site Supervision and Compliance - Undertaking site inspections of work areas and relaying observations and/or reporting environmental issues where necessary, as well as advising on remedial actions.
  • Ecological Surveys and Monitoring - Provide on-site ecological guidance to contractors and project teams, and conduct walkover surveys, assessments, and species-specific checks.
  • Reporting and Documentation - Provision of written and verbal advice on environment legislation, permits, and environmental planning constraints for all activities on site. Preparation of daily site logs, compliance reports, and ecological monitoring records.
  • Environmental performance information - Gather and collate environmental performance information on activities.
  • Compliance - Support compliance with environmental legislation and demonstration of substantiation of environmental protection equipment.
  • Project Support and Coordination - Assist with the planning and coordination of environmental deliverables and support senior ecologists in delivering project objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement - Liaise with stakeholders to ensure environmental requirements are understood and implemented. Act as onsite point of contact for environmental/ ecological matters.
  • Environmental Management Plan - Reviewing and updating the Environmental Management Plan to ensure it is compliant with environmental regulations.
  • Internal Audits - Support for the self‑assessment and internal audit of site activities to ensure compliance against applicable legislation, processes and procedures and environmental best practice.

Qualifications Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Experience in an Environmental Management role, with onsite environmental and ecological experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of environmental legislation in the UK relevant to construction or industrial installations, plus knowledge of the supporting guidance, reference notes, industry best practice.
  • Must be able to work independently and demonstrate excellent communication/interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Experience conducting environmental/ ecological fieldwork and supervising works in sensitive habitats.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence in engaging with contractors and stakeholders.
  • Experience of operating within an environmental management system (EMS) conforming to recognised standards (BS EN ISO14001:2015).
  • Ability to prioritise work in a complex and fast‑moving project environment with excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Awareness of the client/contractor relationship and legal responsibilities under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 would be desirable.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent in an environmental or engineering/science related discipline.
  • A full UK or EU driving licence and willingness to travel to remote or active construction sites.
