Your future team
We are seeking a highly capable Senior EC&I Engineer to support and lead engineering activities across a diverse portfolio of Defence work packages. This role spans the full engineering lifecycle — from early requirements and concept development through to detailed design, technical governance and assurance. As a Senior EC&I Engineer, you will work independently with minimal supervision, lead small discipline teams, support and mentor engineers, and take responsibility for producing high-quality engineering outputs. You will be central to shaping technical solutions, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with client and regulatory expectations.
Your missions
- Develop EC&I and control system concepts from requirements through to detailed design
- Apply systematic engineering methods to ensure safe, compliant and cost-effective designs
- Produce technical solutions with minimal supervision, meeting client and project needs
- Use strong EC&I engineering knowledge and awareness of relevant technologies
- Apply applicable standards and regulations, including BS 7671 and LVD
- Identify, assess and mitigate design risks across the engineering lifecycle
- Consider environmental impacts in design and implementation decisions
- Support verification, validation and technical substantiation activities
- Build trust and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Mentor and support junior engineers in developing their skills
- Promote good engineering practice, process adherence and professional standards
- Check and verify engineering work produced by others

Qualifications Experience/Qualifications:
- A degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Control Engineering, or HNC/HND with substantial relevant experience
- A minimum of three years’ experience at Engineer grade or in an equivalent role
- Membership of a relevant institution (IET, IMC) and working towards Chartered status
- Strong experience delivering EC&I engineering in detailed design environments
- Proven ability to independently develop EC&I technical solutions meeting client and regulatory requirements
- Experience supervising others, providing technical oversight and leading small engineering teams
- Ability to check and review engineering work produced by others
- Strong communication skills, engaging effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Commitment to professional development and supporting others to grow their skills
Desirable Experience/Qualifications:
- Machinery design compliant with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 (Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC)
- Experience with nuclear safety cases and classification of Structures, Systems and Components
- Experience with Functional Safety Standards
- Experience working on BIM-enabled projects
- Knowledge of front-end safety system design, including legislation, standards and activities such as FMECA, HAZOP and HAZID
- Knowledge of electrical systems design, including calculations and EMC assessment
- Experience of software, hardware or embedded programming for machinery and process plant control
- Knowledge of instrumentation design techniques
- Experience with obsolescence management
