Job Purpose: The Quality Engineer (QE) plays a key role in supporting client programmes and projects by delivering effective quality management and quality control services. The primary purpose of the role is to provide assurance and evidence that both the Client and the supply chain are complying with contractual quality requirements across allocated programmes and projects. The secondary purpose is to support the successful delivery of Client Programmes by:

  • Ensuring adherence to programme-wide quality arrangements
  • Establishing and maintaining project-specific quality arrangements, where required
  • Ensuring consistent implementation of quality across all activities within the programme scope

The QE will work closely with project teams and supply-chain partners to ensure quality is delivered consistently, safely and right‐first‐time.

Role Context / Key Activities (Dependent on Client requirements): As an embedded member of the Programme or Project team, the Quality Engineer will:

  • Provide practical support on the application of project‐specific quality activities, as directed by the Client line manager, ensuring consistency and compliance.
  • Establish, maintain and oversee quality arrangements that support safe, efficient, and right‐first‐time delivery of project activities.
  • Maintain Project Quality Plans and Manufacturing / Inspection & Test (MIT) Plans in a consistent and controlled manner.
  • Undertake surveillance and inspection activities across client sites and/or sub‐contractor facilities.
  • Capture, analyse and report quality performance metrics, ensuring management reporting within the MDT is clear, accurate and meaningful.
  • Manage the non‐conformance process, including:
    • Identification of project‐wide preventative actions
    • Driving timely closure of non‐conformances
    • Ensuring project‐wide learning is captured and applied
  • Plan and conduct work‐stream and cross‐project audits, as required.

Principal Accountabilities: The Quality Engineer is accountable to the Client for:

  • Delivering day‐to‐day quality management activities in line with Client priorities and direction from the Client Quality Director, as defined through objectives or task orders.
  • Reviewing quality records, inspections and checks to provide effective quality oversight and assurance of compliance with specified requirements.
  • Supporting the review, acceptance and oversight of Quality Plans and Inspection & Test Plans submitted by the supply chain.
  • Assisting the Client in establishing effective manufacturing and site surveillance plans, aligned to identified risks.
  • Ensuring appropriate controls are in place for the provision and management of Quality Records and End‐of‐Manufacture / End‐of‐Works Reports.
  • Supporting the effective close‐out of non‐conformances, including Root Cause Analysis and implementation of project‐wide preventative actions.
  • Supporting Client and supply‐chain audits, ensuring audit findings are addressed and closed out in a timely manner.
  • Actively participating in programme and project risk & opportunity reviews, including lessons‐learned activities.
  • Contributing to quality investigations and issue resolution activities, as required.

Qualifications: Post-academic experience within a project-based engineering environment. Proven experience working on large, complex projects, preferably within the nuclear or highly regulated sector, with a strong focus on product and project quality aligned to a specific engineering discipline. Strong understanding of quality control principles and project process management. Experience operating within an international quality environment. Demonstrable experience assuring compliance with various national / international standards, including:

  • GS‐R‐3
  • ISO 9001
  • ISO 19443
  • ISO 3834
  • EN 10204

Working knowledge and experience of Licence Conditions LC6 and LC17, and ONR TAG 077. Experienced in planning and conducting internal and supplier audits. Competent in carrying out inspections to appropriate standards, including pressurised systems. Strong background in reviewing quality records, such as material certification and CFSI. Ability to analyse quality data at multiple levels across the business and present meaningful insights. Confident influencer, able to provide constructive challenge that is positively received. Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Practical experience applying quality tools and techniques, such as SPC, histograms, and cause-and-effect analysis. Proactive, flexible, and self‐motivated; comfortable working independently across a broad range of quality and performance‐driven activities. Fluent in English (French language skills are desirable).

You should be able to demonstrate a selection of the following qualifications:

  • Apprenticeship in an engineering discipline.
  • Practitioner‐grade member of the Chartered Quality Institute (CQI) or an equivalent professional engineering institute.
  • Formally recognised Quality qualification, e.g. IRCA Audit.
  • Minimum qualification to ONC/HNC level (preferably engineering).
  • IRCA Registered Auditor (role‐specific).
  • CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector (role‐specific).
  • Internationally recognised NDT qualifications in one or more of the following (role‐specific):
    • Radiography
    • Dye Penetrant
    • Magnetic Particle
    • Ultrasonics

Additional Information: As this is a front-line site delivery role, there is a necessity to work flexibly under the time pressure of the schedule in order to unblock technical issues to allow continuity of work by the installation teams.
