The Business Resource Manager is part of a UK-based Resource Management team and plays a vital role in helping the business succeed. You’ll make sure our projects are resourced with the right people, at the right time, both for current work and future demand. This is a varied, hands-on role that covers the full resource management lifecycle. You’ll work closely with budget holders and Heads of Discipline to understand project needs, partner with customers and internal stakeholders to mobilise people onto projects, use resource planning systems to track assignments and availability, collaborate with internal recruitment teams when additional capability is required, support interviews, selection and onboarding, manage chargeable and non-chargeable time, oversee training and development time, and provide forecasting, progress updates and reports. You’ll be responsible for helping the workforce contribute to business success while meeting budget objectives.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Planning resources by capturing project requirements and mapping people to projects using company systems
- Identifying available skills and capacity across the business to maximise utilisation and stay within budget
- Coordinating smooth project transitions with internal teams and customers
- Supporting recruitment activity, including interviewing candidates to help grow the business
- Working with budget holders to plan and manage non-chargeable activities and time
- Forecasting utilisation, capacity and future resource needs
- Working with Heads of Discipline to identify the best people for projects and bids
- Partnering with Learning and Development to ensure training plans are in place and aligned with budget
- Ensuring chargeable resources are financially and logistically ready to start work
- Delivering new starter inductions, setting up training materials and mobilising people onto projects
- Liaising with customers to understand and respond to changing resource demands
- Creating clear and accurate role specifications
- Acting as a key link between recruitment and new starters to ensure a positive onboarding experience
- Coordinating and acting as the main point of contact for contract resources
- Maintaining essential documentation such as headcount reports, organisation charts and contact lists
- Producing forecasting and performance reports to support decision-making
- Creating and maintaining the department’s annual plan
- Working closely with other departments to align resource availability and requirements
- Representing Assystem within Frameworks
- Agreeing and setting financial terms for new recruits
Qualifications: You’ll hold a minimum UK qualification at Level 4, or a Level 3 qualification supported by substantial relevant experience. You’ll be working towards professional affiliation with a relevant institution, such as CMI, CIPD or IOM. Foundation membership or full membership is preferred. An understanding and practical application of project management principles, for example APM, within an engineering environment would be beneficial, but is not essential.
