Company Description

Today, Assystem is among the top three independent nuclear engineering firms worldwide. With over 60 years of experience in highly regulated sectors, the group supports public and industrial stakeholders in the execution of complex and strategic infrastructure projects, subject to high safety and security requirements. Assystem mobilizes 8,000 experts in 13 countries and intervenes across the entire project lifecycle, in engineering, project management and digital solutions.

Job Description

Assystem’s Safety & Risk business supports some of the UK’s most complex infrastructure programmes across nuclear, defence and critical national infrastructure. We provide independent technical authority combining engineering insight, regulatory understanding and delivery pragmatism to ensure safety is demonstrably achieved and maintained across the full lifecycle. We are expanding our support across major infrastructure programmes and are seeking a Safety Case Manager to lead and assure safety activities within complex, highly regulated environments.

You will operate as a technical authority and Intelligent Customer, setting expectations, assuring technical quality, and influencing key safety decisions across the full project lifecycle. The role requires strong technical judgement, the ability to challenge constructively, and confidence working across multidisciplinary teams. This is an opportunity to work at the forefront of high-consequence engineering, where safety is critical to successful delivery and where your input will directly shape how complex infrastructure is designed, justified and brought into operation.

  • Safety Case Leadership & Assurance
    • Lead the development and integration of Safety Cases across design, construction, and operational phases.
    • Assure the strength of safety arguments, supporting evidence, and hazard management approaches.
    • Provide oversight of safety strategies and Safety Case justification plans.
  • Intelligent Customer Function
    • Challenge design and safety assumptions to ensure proportionate, compliant, and defensible outcomes.
    • Assure supply chain outputs meet technical, quality, and regulatory expectations.
  • Stakeholder & Programme Engagement
    • Interface effectively with customers, stakeholders, delivery partners, and regulators.
    • Provide clear, authoritative technical advice within complex programme environments.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • Proven experience in Safety Case development, management, and assurance within highly regulated industries.
  • Strong understanding of UK regulatory frameworks, including experience working with organisations such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) and/or Defence Nuclear Safety Regulator (DNSR).
  • Demonstrated ability to act as a trusted technical authority, providing expert guidance across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Confidence to challenge assumptions, interrogate evidence, and influence technical decision-making to ensure safety cases are robust, proportionate, and defensible.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and engage senior leaders, customers, regulators, and technical specialists.
  • Experience balancing technical excellence with programme delivery, understanding commercial, operational, and project constraints.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the judgement to make sound decisions in situations where there is no single "right" answer.
  • A proactive, accountable approach, taking ownership of safety outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of technical quality and governance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Desirable Experience

  • Have experience working across both defence and civil nuclear programmes.
  • Are recognised as a trusted advisor who can provide independent challenge and technical assurance.
  • Enjoy mentoring and developing others while fostering a strong safety culture.
  • Bring a collaborative mindset and the confidence to work effectively in ambiguous or evolving programme environments.
