The role will operationally report to the Transverse Discipline Lead within the Integrated Transverse Team, and functionally report to an Engineering Lead within the MEH and Civils Operational Branch of JDO. The post-holder will be a coating engineer, coating chemist, chemical engineer or materials engineer, contributing to the technical assessment of engineering queries raised by the site Contractor on the M&E coating scope across the CI/BOP and Nuclear Island buildings. The role will consist of both client and responsible designer activities.
The role will be focused upon coating queries, non-conformances and coating optimisation - coordinating and leading the technical response for the client. The role will be interfaced with other disciplines and with several parties, such as the site Contractors (composed of main suppliers and sub-suppliers), Construction teams, Quality teams, Project Management teams, or Design teams (embedded within the JDO organisation on site, or in back office).
Key Responsibilities- Responding to General Queries, Non-Conformances, Change Request, and Exemption Requests originating from the MEH Contractor on site, with the support of the Responsible Designer or site Experts when needed.
- Provide adequate oversight to ensure the Nuclear Safety and Environmental Regulation requirements are met.
- Support the integrated team with technical assessment of contractor queries.
- Carry out nuclear safety and environmental assessment (categorisation) of queries.
- Challenge design decisions so that engineering and design aligns with the project strategy.
- Assist in co-ordinating support from other external organisations.
- Contribute to the resolution and closure of Open Points.
- Assess technical risk and subsequently address this risk.
- Maintain a strong relationship with Responsible Designer.
- Report operationally to an Engineering Lead.
- Degree, HNC/HND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline or experience in coating.
- Experience applying multi-disciplinary technical knowledge within the nuclear industry.
- Knowledge of the construction / installation industry.
- Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation including CDM and Nuclear Site License requirements.
- Ability to influence a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly those in a site environment.
- Ability to work independently, be pro-active, report on and escalate relevant issues.
