Your future team: We are seeking a highly capable Senior EC&I Engineer to support and lead engineering activities across a diverse portfolio of Defence work packages. This role spans the full engineering lifecycle — from early requirements and concept development through to detailed design, technical governance and assurance.

As a Senior EC&I Engineer, you will work independently with minimal supervision, lead small discipline teams, support and mentor engineers, and take responsibility for producing high-quality engineering outputs. You will be central to shaping technical solutions, ensuring designs are safe, compliant, cost-effective, and aligned with client and regulatory expectations.

Your missions:

  • Develop EC&I and control system concepts from requirements through to detailed design
  • Apply systematic engineering methods to ensure safe, compliant and cost-effective designs
  • Produce technical solutions with minimal supervision, meeting client and project needs
  • Use strong EC&I engineering knowledge and awareness of relevant technologies
  • Apply applicable standards and regulations, including BS 7671 and LVD
  • Identify, assess and mitigate design risks across the engineering lifecycle
  • Consider environmental impacts in design and implementation decisions
  • Support verification, validation and technical substantiation activities
  • Build trust and maintain strong stakeholder relationships
  • Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Mentor and support junior engineers in developing their skills
  • Promote good engineering practice, process adherence and professional standards
  • Check and verify engineering work produced by others

Experience/Qualifications:

  • A degree in Electrical, Instrumentation or Control Engineering, or HNC/HND with substantial relevant experience
  • A minimum of three years’ experience at Engineer grade or in an equivalent role
  • Membership of a relevant institution (IET, IMC) and working towards Chartered status
  • Strong experience delivering EC&I engineering in detailed design environments
  • Proven ability to independently develop EC&I technical solutions meeting client and regulatory requirements
  • Experience supervising others, providing technical oversight and leading small engineering teams
  • Ability to check and review engineering work produced by others
  • Strong communication skills, engaging effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Commitment to professional development and supporting others to grow their skills

Desirable Experience/Qualifications:

  • Machinery design compliant with the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 (Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC)
  • Experience with nuclear safety cases and classification of Structures, Systems and Components
  • Experience with Functional Safety Standards
  • Experience working on BIM-enabled projects
  • Knowledge of front-end safety system design, including legislation, standards and activities such as FMECA, HAZOP and HAZID
  • Knowledge of electrical systems design, including calculations and EMC assessment
  • Experience of software, hardware or embedded programming for machinery and process plant control
  • Knowledge of instrumentation design techniques
  • Experience with obsolescence management

Security clearance: Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
