Our Client’s Design Authority undertakes a vital role in ensuring that key defence infrastructure is safe and fit for purpose. We are looking for an experienced Crane / Mechanical Handling Engineer to support the technical capability of the Design Authority (DA). This role will be suited to engineers with experience in Mechanical Design, although candidates experienced in Mechanical Installation or Maintenance are also welcomed.
TASKSKey responsibilities will include:
- Technical excellence in the specification, production and assessment of design packages for infrastructure.
- Plant walkdowns and production of associated Periodic Safety Review deliverables.
- Specification of reliability and operational constraints for infrastructure.
- Assessment of work control procedures for maintenance of infrastructure.
- Assessment of infrastructure design, material state, qualification and ageing mechanisms to permit the continued operation of facilities and utilities.
- Discharge and display a robust safety and security culture.
- Ensure outputs of safety related contracts meet the contract requirements and appropriate safety requirements by acting as an intelligent customer.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential- Broad engineering experience, with a strong background in the design and assessment of EOT (Electric Overhead Travelling) cranes and mechanical lifting systems.
- Familiarity with LOLER, crane design statements, and other lifting equipment regulations.
- Experience within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated/high-hazard industry is desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrable experience undertaking Periodic Safety Reviews (PSRs) in line with ONR Licence Condition 15 / DNSR Authorisation Condition 15, including assessment of Structures, Systems and Components (SSCs), design intent, safety case adequacy, ageing mechanisms, and continued fitness for service.
- Ability to develop practical, innovative, and cost-effective engineering solutions for plant and infrastructure modifications.
- Good understanding of British and international engineering design standards.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to make evidence-based decisions using a range of technical data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise your own workload.
Essential
- HNC (or equivalent qualification/experience) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Detailed knowledge of the design intent for electrical infrastructure within the nuclear sector or a similar highly regulated environment.
Desirable
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent professional experience.
- Degree (or equivalent qualification/experience) in Engineering or a related discipline.
