Role Overview
Overseeing substantial Engineering Design resources (financial and/or people) and being accountable for the development and delivery of legally compliant, pragmatic, fit-for-purpose design solutions that meet functional and business requirements. The successful candidate will perform at Principal Design Engineer 1 level, undertaking the specific role of Project Engineering Manager for a Projects Portfolio within the Site Management Project Office, reporting to the Senior Project Manager.

- Significant and broad experience working in roles where engineering knowledge is a key attribute.
- Significant and broad experience working within a highly regulated and quality-assured environment where professional engineering judgement is critical.
- Experience working in a variety of roles within the Engineering Design profession.
- Demonstrable experience successfully leading and delivering large portfolios of fit-for-purpose design engineering solutions to time, cost, and quality requirements.
- Extensive team leadership experience.
- Significant experience managing professionally qualified engineers.
- Significant experience holding personal responsibility for decisions involving substantial resources and their consequences.
- Considerable experience leading change and/or improvement programmes within engineering teams, delivering measurable results.
- Extensive experience collaborating with supply chain partners to deliver successful projects.
Knowledge
- Considerable knowledge of the Project Systems Engineering discipline and its application within nuclear projects.
- Ability to successfully apply engineering knowledge to deliver innovative products and services.
- Broad understanding of other engineering disciplines and their role within engineering delivery.
- Thorough understanding of nuclear safety and security, with the ability to identify key nuclear hazards and articulate effective management strategies.
- Knowledge of governing laws, regulations, and standards within the nuclear industry, with experience applying them appropriately on projects.
- Thorough understanding of the Engineering Design community structure and key interfaces with other business areas.
- Knowledge of the Sellafield Ltd. Management System structure and standards hierarchy, including practical application of the standards most relevant to Engineering Design.
- Good understanding of Project Delivery Fundamentals and experience applying them to ensure projects meet business and functional requirements.
- Good knowledge of Nuclear Professionalism Standards and Expectations, applying them in day-to-day decision-making.
- Good commercial awareness of NEC 3 Contracts.
Desirable Skills
- Experience successfully defining, leading, and implementing change and/or improvement programmes with demonstrable results.
- Certified INCOSE Associate Systems Engineering Professional (ASEP) or currently working towards certification.
- Evidence of broader support to professional institutes and industry bodies beyond core professional responsibilities, often undertaken in personal time.
- Proven ability to inspire and motivate the Engineering Design community.
- Applied knowledge of manufacturing techniques and a general awareness of the constraints they impose on product definition.
Essential Skills
- Graduate qualification (minimum BEng, preferred MEng) or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Chartered Engineer status in a relevant discipline.
- Meeting the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements of your Professional Institution.
- Demonstrable experience in the Project Systems Engineering discipline and its application within nuclear projects.
- Demonstrable experience successfully leading and delivering large portfolios of, or large-scale, fit-for-purpose design engineering solutions to time, cost, and quality requirements.
- Demonstrable experience leading engineering teams comprising both Sellafield and supply chain personnel.
- Strong knowledge of governing laws, key regulations, and industry standards within the nuclear sector, with proven experience applying them appropriately on projects.
- Knowledge of Project Delivery Fundamentals and their application to ensure projects meet business and functional requirements.
- Demonstrable experience leading on Nuclear Safety and Environment, Health, Safety & Security (EHSS) matters.
