Job Description
As the Mechanical Contract Engineering Lead (CEL), you will provide contractual and technical oversight of the contract(s), including the management and coordination of Technical Engineering Leads for each contract and managing the resolution of open points related to Design, Manufacturing and Qualification. You will also be responsible for keeping the contract at the configuration compliant with the project progress.
Typical CEL activities include, but are not limited to:- Leading contract technical and project meetings
- Technical surveillance and resolution of issues/queries
- Review and approval of contractor deliverables and design where necessary
- Control and Management of the evolution of the contract and design changes
- Review and approval of contract amendments and exemptions (CTSs, ERs)
- Manage the contract Technical leads (TLs) and associated delivery scope, including task prioritisation
- Resource planning to ensure the requirements of the contract are met to time, cost, schedule and quality
- Management of stakeholders, such as:
- Liaise with Responsible Designer (RD) and client teams to ensure integration of equipment with interfacing functions/systems
- Liaise with Responsible Designer (RD) and client management teams to communicate progress, risks, issues and planning to support contract delivery.
- Form close working relationship with HPC counterparts to support and execute SZC contract replication principles
- Reporting of KPIs to the SZC Equipment Management Team
- Ensure qualification activities are progressing accordingly to the contract progress and site needs.
- Help to upskill other members of the team, including other less experienced CELs
In order to do this, you will work closely with the relevant disciplines in design office but also within the client and the suppliers to ensure the technical requirements are met.
My profile
The successful Contract Engineering Lead will be able to demonstrate most of the below experience, skill and/or ability:
- Engineering Degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering (or equivalent by experience).
- Previous experience in the nuclear or high-integrity industrial sector
- Strong familiarity with ASME standards, particularly related to pressure-retaining components and mechanical systems.
- Previous experience in at least one of the following:
- EPR projects (e.g., Flamanville 3, Taishan, Olkiluoto 3, HPC)
- UK nuclear new build (e.g., HPC, SZC, Sellafield major projects)
- Leadership skills in managing cross-functional engineering tasks, especially involving large numbers of components and stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of valve system performance, testing protocols, supplier documentation reviews, and non-conformance resolution.
- Familiarity with UK site processes, such as surveillance readiness, CDM compliance, and Technical Query/Technical Deviation workflows.
