Salary: £49,052- £54,891 per annum (depending on experience, plus a London Weighting Allowance prorated as applicable)

Contract: Fixed term contracts or secondments to 31 March 2027

The Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) has an exciting opportunity for two Policy and Governance Managers to join our busy team to deliver an ambitious programme of work to support Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs) and their equivalents as the public’s elected voice on policing and criminal justice. These are rewarding and demanding roles with responsibility for programme managing a series of key deliverables to support PCCs to undertake key statutory functions related to public accountability, oversight and scrutiny and performance monitoring.

Both roles will work in our Governance, Business and Policy Team and each would be responsible for one specific programme of work:

  • Supporting PCCs to build public trust and confidence in policing, with a focus on effective scrutiny, holding to account arrangements, and effective Police and Crime Plans and toolkits;
  • Supporting PCCs to improve police standards with a focus on performance monitoring, data-driven accountability and enhanced ethical oversight of police use of new technology.

You will have excellent planning and organising, analytical, communications and problem-solving skills and ideally experience of working in policing governance or a closely related sector.

Following the Government announcement on the abolition of PCCs from 2028, the APCC is playing a key role in ensuring that the new model of local policing governance is robust, effective and designed to build on the successes of the PCC model. These are varied and rewarding roles at the heart of the organisation and provide a unique opportunity to gain further experience of national policing, governance and significant policing reforms.

About the APCC: The APCC is the national membership organisation representing Police and Crime Commissioners (PCCs), deputy mayors and other local policing bodies. We work across England and Wales to support PCCs to provide national leadership and drive strategic change in policing, criminal justice and community safety, operating in the public interest.

Location: We balance working in our Westminster office with working remotely. The organisation supports flexible work although some attendance in London would be required.
