About the role of the Legal Cashier
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Legal Cashier to join our accounts department based in London. The successful candidate will be working as part of a small but busy team dealing with all aspects of daily cashiering. This will include:
- Client Accounting
- Ensure all client account transactions are processed daily, without delay
- Ensure compliance with SRA client money regulations and firm's client account policies and procedures
- Maintain the firm's SRA client money regulations breaches register & report to Finance Controller
- Ensure daily bank reconciliation of client account
- Ensure residual client balances are checked weekly and funds dealt with accordingly
- Office Accounting
- Ensure bills and credit notes are raised in accordance with firm's requirements
- Ensure expenses are processed, approved, and paid in line with weekly and month end deadlines
- Ensure disbursement recharges are processed in a timely manner to facilitate prompt billing and recovery
- Ensure the firm's credit card transactions are processed monthly
- Assist in preparing month end reports for Australia & Swiss office
- Maintain Consultancy register and payments
- Maintain commission register & payments
- Accounts Payable
- Monitor outstanding purchase orders to ensure appropriate action is taken to maintain accurate records
- Ensure all office payments, as far as possible, are processed via the firm's purchase ledger
- Ensure all office payments are posted in a timely manner
- Ensure urgent payment requests are processed in line with firm's policy
- Ensure supplier statements are reconciled and any query items resolved without delay
- Perform aged creditor analysis, resolve queries and report on outstanding overdue items
- General Assistance
- Provide cover and assistance as and when necessary
- Maintain an efficient and effective, high level of service to the business, the firm's clients and suppliers
- Continually review and identify opportunity for process enhancements and improvements to financial control, proposing recommendations to senior management
- Ensure senior management are informed of all contentious issues
About You
We are seeking a team player who can also confidently work independently. It is essential that you have experience as a Legal Cashier with 3 or more years' experience and have a strong understanding of the SRA Accounts Rules, accounts payables, receivables, bank reconciliations, cash flow and general assistance. Candidates must have a good educational background. Relevant experience within a busy Finance department of a legal practice is required. Excellent knowledge and experience of working with finance systems (GL) and practice management systems (clients and matters) is essential. Expertise in client accounting, including regulatory compliance with SRA and bank reconciliations is required. Strong numerical, organisational and communication skills are necessary. Candidates should understand accruals and prepayments. Strong knowledge of input/output VAT is required. Strong organisational skills and an eye for detail are essential.
