Sandwell Council is seeking dynamic and experienced individuals to join its welcoming and forward‐thinking Democratic Services Team as a Senior Democratic Services Officer. Working at the heart of the organisation, the role plays a key part in supporting the Council's decision‐making framework and ensuring high standards of governance across the authority. The post provides expert advice and leadership on democratic processes, legislation and best practice, contributing directly to transparent, efficient and effective local decision‐making.
About the role
- Acting as a subject‐matter expert in legislation and the Council's Constitution, leading on the administration and governance of a wide range of Council meetings.
- Providing high‐quality administrative and professional support to the Council's formal decision‐making bodies.
- Contributing to the development and delivery of an effective Member Development Programme.
- Playing a key role in the development, monitoring and maintenance of corporate standards, best practice and high‐quality governance across the organisation.
About you
- Substantial experience in local government committee administration, with strong knowledge of legislation and governance frameworks.
- Excellent organisational skills, combined with the flexibility to manage competing priorities in a fast‐paced environment.
- A positive, proactive mindset with initiative and a strong commitment to supporting local democracy.
- Confidence working independently, alongside a willingness to share knowledge and support the development of colleagues across the team.
