If the answer’s yes, we have the role for you.

We are looking for a Senior Democratic and Electoral Services Officer within our Democratic Services Team to take on a leading role which:

  • places you at the centre of the Council’s political and decision-making process, working directly with senior councillors, officers and stakeholders.
  • gives you the opportunity to influence and lead on the planning and delivery of key electoral events, including national and local elections, and the annual canvass.
  • allows you to develop and improve democratic services, committee support and electoral administration, drawing on your existing experience to support innovation in a high-profile team.

About the role

As a senior member of the team, you’ll:

  • lead and manage key functions of democratic services and elections.
  • advise elected members and senior officers on complex governance and procedural issues.
  • oversee the delivery of key projects across elections and democratic services.
  • contribute to the continuous improvement of democratic processes, including digital innovation and public engagement.
  • support the Democratic and Electoral Services Manager in team leadership and service planning.

Who we’re looking for

We’d love to hear from you if you:

  • have experience of working in democratic services and/or elections.
  • are confident operating at a senior level, working closely with members and officers.
  • have strong political awareness, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a high-profile environment.
  • are an excellent team player, pro-active and dynamic.

We use Viva Engage to keep you connected and engaged and we hold regular face to face meetings, such as Chief Executive briefings to keep you in the loop.

We are conveniently located close to Oxted Station and have some on-site parking.

Local Government Reorganisation

Surrey is part of the government’s plans for local government reorganisation. This means the current two tier system, where services are split between Surrey County Council and district and borough councils like Tandridge, will be replaced with larger councils, which handle all local services.

Although this may lead to some uncertainty for anyone considering a role with us, this process will take several years and during that time we still need to provide services.

When local government is reorganised, most staff will transfer to the new council which may offer additional opportunities for career development and variety as part of a larger organisation. The majority of the roles we currently have will still be needed whether that is for planning, housing, recycling and waste, finance, IT, HR etc.

Deadline for applications: Sunday 6th July
