Salary: £38,220 up to £42,839 per annum pro rata

Contract: Permanent, Full time

Hours: 37 hours per week

About the role

Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council is seeking an experienced Senior Democratic Services Officer to play a key role in supporting the Council’s democratic, decision making and governance processes. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled democratic services professional with strong knowledge of local government law, governance, constitutional arrangements and committee management to work at the heart of local democracy.

What you will be doing

  • Supporting the Council’s democratic and decision making processes, including Council, Executive, regulatory and scrutiny committees and working groups
  • Providing professional governance and constitutional advice to members and officers
  • Managing and developing the modern.gov decision management system
  • Maintaining forward plans, calendars of meetings and scrutiny work programmes
  • Supporting overview and scrutiny activities, including task and finish groups
  • Providing support to members and the civic function
  • Supporting the corporate complaints process

About you

You will be a confident and organised professional with substantial experience in a democratic services or governance environment.

Essential criteria

  • Significant experience in democratic services, governance or committee administration
  • Strong knowledge of local government legislation, constitutions and political processes
  • Experience advising elected members and senior officers
  • Experience managing committee management systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities and tight deadlines
  • Political awareness, discretion, tact and diplomacy
