We are looking for an enthusiastic Governance and Members Officer to join our busy, committed team at Braintree District Council. The team plays a vital role in supporting Elected Members and ensuring the smooth running of the Council’s democratic processes. From organising and delivering evening committee meetings to providing Members with timely access to information and resources, we are central to the Council’s governance and decision‑making functions.
As a Governance and Members Officer, you will contribute to the delivery of a high‑quality Governance Service. You will work directly with Elected Members, officers, and customers to ensure effective, efficient and professional committee and Member support. Being part of the Governance Service, you will also have the opportunity to participate in the delivery of other functions of the Service, including supporting the elections. Please note, the role will involve evening meetings.
Requirements
- A flexible, professional approach, with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, clients and Elected Members
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong administrative and time‑management capabilities
- Experience in committee administration, including producing accurate minutes
- A high level of attention to detail
- An understanding of local government decision‑making processes
Desirable experience
- Committee administration, particularly minute‑taking
- Working with a committee management system
- Experience using virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom and/or Microsoft Teams
